The 65' looks awesome! Are you going to change out the gas tank or just the sender/pump?

This is screwing up a lot of sites. I noticed over the weekend while doing some research that a lot of pictures I could have used for reference are now gone on various build threads over the Internet. It sucks!

yes, my 65 build thread is decimated by the pb thing. here is a shot of when I had it. his HOA complained about the patina, so he plastidipped it. he also bought it without the wheels, which I think were perfect on there.

I replaced the pump and strainer. I tried to find a complete setup in town but only one place had it and it was $259 for precision brand, compare that to $65 on rockauto. so I bought just the pump and strainer and you can see it in the pictures, as well as the video of how well it runs right after it. flickr doesnt put the play button on the videos so I guess I have to say "its a video" from now on. I replaced the tank earlier in the build because it was so rusty, and the fuel pump had the same issue. the guy said he wrecked the truck and pulled the tank and sold it to me. seems like it sat a while longer than he said.


I did a little more last night, it was pretty hot but I mocked up the seats. its a little tight in there, but I am not building a winnebago either so its to be expected.

well mother flipper. I tried to get the truck to idle but it would not. some of it is the small amount of bad gas, I added 5 gal fresh but still there was about a gallon of trash in there. I added some seafoam and a gallon of xylene to combat the problem but still no good idle. one plug wire had a squirrel chew so I did plugs wires cap rotor and IAC, still no idle. I didnt need a noid light to see the drivers injector was barely squirting so I resigned myself to a rebuild of the TBI

new injectors, cleaned the throttle body completely, new o rings and seals and gaskets. cleaned the EGR while I was in there. only hard thing was getting the fuel lines hooked back up, I moved them to get to the EGR and that was a big mistake.

I dont think I need a riser for the rear mounts, just a nut plate. I will tack them down and start on the bed, probably today.

hey thanks! that was a really nice compliment

turned it around under its own power, almost went for a blast on the dirt road but the hood isnt bolted down and there isnt an air cleaner yet so probably best to stick to the yard for now.

de-floored the bed and trimmed it slightly, just wanted to see where the wheel arch center is in relation to the bed and back of the cab. remember that this is a 3/4 ton so it originally came with a 47-55 long bed and fenders, so I bought a 1/2 ton short bed and 41-46 fenders. the s10 long wheelbase is a little longer than the 41 short wheelbase so I wanted to see if I could get it close enough to look right.

obviously the bed sides hit the tires because the s10 axle is narrower, I could have thrown on some spacers but I like the way the wheels look in there currently so I decided to hit northern tool and pick up a single 10" wide trailer fender. when I got it home I cut it in half, then marked and plasma'd the bedsides

I ran out of welding gas building the seat mounts so while I was out I stopped for a new bottle. turns out they were out of 88cu ft bottles so they loaned me a 24 so I could keep welding. silly little thing!

that oxblood color interior is my absolute favorite. I dont mean to gush by jeeze I love that color on a hot rod.

they are from an 89 or 90 lebaron, I made a nice drawing of what I wanted the upholstery to look like and dropped it and the seats off at the interior shop and they blithely ignored it. blithely may not be strong enough, they pointedly ignored it.

anyway.

got the bed standing on its own. looks nice! after these pictures I added a third cross bar at the rear.

I had bought a set of bolts and nuts thinking I would slot the rectangle tube for the bolts and weld them in pointing down, so that the studs would find the holes instead of the bed slithering around trying to line everything up. well I couldnt find the bolts but I DID find the 1/2" all thread I bought when doing the motor move. I cut some chunks and drilled the bottom hole big enough for the all thread and the top hole just a 1/4" hole, then I tacked the all thread on the bottom and welded up the hole to the all thread on top. works perfect and this way I dont worry about the slots weakening the tube.

I also raised the seat risers (rised the risers..) in the front two inches. now the seats are more comfortable.

Nice work!! It's so satisfying when they move on there own, even if it only in and out of the garage. I had Lebaron seats in my Jeep, most comfortable seats I ever had.

yeah I want to uncork it but there are things to do.

the seat riser risers worked well, as a mock up. unfortunately welding an 18" long butt joint turns metal into a pretzel no matter how careful you are.

seats are in. the passenger side seatback sits 1/4" higher than the drivers because these are 30 year old seats no matter how nice the new upholstery. I can live with it

when I saw a 41 for parts on the meadville pa craigslist, I called my brother who lives up there. I made a deal for the rear fenders and my brother shipped them to me in a giant box. I got this truck and it had a 47-55 bed and rear fenders so I was glad to find some rear fenders, even though one had a watermelon sized hole in it.

I picked up another passenger rear fender the next week but it is black, plus I hate borrowing from future projects (now haha, wasnt always that way). I found a bed that had a scrap of a drivers fender left on it and postulated that, properly trimmed, this scrap could fill the hole.

time to test that theory. I was tired of bending over so I tackled the fender. I used my air nibbler to trim the rust on the fender only enough to get back to good metal.

I need to rebuild the inner mounting lip too but the scrap fender had a good amount of that part too, so I might just get this done tomorrow! no plans for body work, this is just the kind of patch that would have been done in the life of the truck and so I will just grind the welds, protect the bare steel, and be done with it.

dang, yah that stuff is hard to find around here. can't believe he shipped those to you, musta cost a fortune with this conglomerate shipping these days. one of the rare times I say cut something up to fix another that was about the only usable thing left on that donor fender. What luck you had with those two fenders eh.

I wasnt sure it would work, the scrap drivers piece on the rusted passenger fender, but I had a feeling and I am super pumped it worked out!

got the fender done, but not much else. I got the old headliner out and a new one picked up and I guess the dust of mouse guts past gave me some kind of sickness. I will wear a mask next time
