Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
Wow sounds like its just about as easy to make it from aluminum ! if I make another 1 I'll see if I can find somebody that can cast it , just not somin I got time to do , I'm still waitin on the dash pad to get here so I can fit the bezel and get the dash completed then its off the the alignment shop, I'll update when the dash pad gets here

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
Thanks Budd , I got the dash off ebay I hope this wasnt a mistake but it was the cheapest I could find the gm restoration dash pad , http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
Well looks like the dash buy was a mistake ! I got the wrong dash 79-80 instead of the 73-78 , it did come from Dashes Direct , it looks like it has some thin aluminum under it but is still really floppy and will need alot of trimming around the edges to fit ,I'll have to see what they do about this , I'm really pissed off !!! I wanted to get this dash in so I could mount the gauge bezel

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
That stinks! I thought 73-80 took the same dash pad?

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb

Ok after I got a second dash here and it was also a 79-80 ,cant believe that they put a 73-78 part # sticker right overtop the 79-80 # , so I gave up and smoothed my dash with fiberglass and sprayed it with truck bed coating looks good , filled in the crack and speaker area turned out better than expected for under $20 bucks ! hope to have the complete dash done by the end of the week , Also some pics of my tire and bag set up a couple members asked about,

Just went through the entire thread, fantastic work and attention to detail!!

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
good idea with the bedliner , the stuff is like rubber , matt black or watever colour you want , sticks whell and is resistant against UV light , that dash should last you a long time
makes me think that if you spray a good dash with wax before aplying the bedliner you can make youre own exact fit dashpads , just leave it to dry pull it off again and trim the edges afterwarts |
Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
The dash is really trick!

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
Thanks guys , I would have never believed it but I looked up restoring dashes and found a Mg site and some guy used it to fix his dash and everybody there was doin it and the dashes they fixed were WAY worse than mine so I figured why not , I sanded it with a da with 120 grit till most of the grain was gone and put 3 spray cans on it ,sanding between coats, my boss thought I was nuts when I told him I was gonna put bedliner on the dash ! cant wait till he gets to see it ,

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
nice work I'm loving the dash, what stuff did you use, I know certain stuff stays rubbery and some gets hard, I think the hard would be better. the weird thing is my dads friend just used that stuff on his firewall, and the inside of his fenders, and I never thought of using it on a dash or anything like that, my dash has a couple of really tiny cracks in it, but there not even spread apart or anything, there just flat small ones, so I might do that to my dash pad and my door panels.
