I found a few rotten sections on the grill support that will have to be remedied. I will be incorporating the radiator support from the Dodge, as it has all the mounting points required for the rad, intercooler, trans cooler and the A/C system. I will have limited space so it should be interesting!

Hey guys, started to patch up the grill support tonight. I have the day off tomorrow so should be able to get it all patched and painted.

Pretty crusty in a few spots. It's always satisfying to cut out the cancer and get some fresh steel in there!

Here is a little sneak peak of the head light assembly. I cleaned up the rings for the head lights and polished up the steel on the light assembly cover and laid down some clear coat. Something different, I think it's going to look pretty good.

Good job. You know what they say about grilles, it's the first part of the vehicle that you see so it has to look good.

Thanks Nik! You are correct, I will spend some more time on the grill support. Decided end I had better lay some paint down on it.

Hahaha thanks pumpston! I have been here, looking back a should have incorporated some of my plans into the thread title. Live and learn, lession one with these projects!

Some progress to report:

Streering column is bolted in and so is the front axle and suspension. Will be spending some more time getting it just right then moving onto mounting the steering box. I spent some more time stripping down the Dodge, wiring harness is out and the box is off. Make it easier to pull the fuel tank and the rear axle. I also picked up 2 5'x12' sheets of 3/4" maple plywood for the flooring. I initially want to use yew wood boards but I am a little concerned about sealing that all up to ensure I don't die from exhaust fumes hahaha. I have the next two weeks off and dedicated to working on the truck. More to come, thanks for tuning it!

Having spent some quality time in the 92 Dodge donor truck. I thought I'd add a profile here and post a few pics of the mighty Dodge in action!
Though a couple hunting pics can't even begin to scratch the surface of the long list of "adventures" this trucks been involved in, lol... I wanted to post a tribute and raise a glass to ol faithful.
It's comforting to know that the heart of the Dodge will now live on in whats shaping up to be an awesome GMC panel truck!

Cheers buddy!

Looks like the truck had lots of great use. Did it come from Kelowna?

Thanks Doug for the tribute! That's great. Yup I have had the Dodge for over 10 years now and has taken me all over the country side. Loads of camping, hunting and traveling.

Can't wait to get the panel rolling. Missing the clatter of the 5.9 already!

Hey Nik,
Yeah it sure has! I bought that truck in Penticton back in 2006, at about 380,000 KMS. Now it's sitting at about 560,000. I plan on pulling freshening up the motor a little down the road, when I switch to the NV4500. Got to stack up some parts after she is running.

I have been flying at the fab work this last week. Here is where I'm sitting.

I have the front axle and drive shaft in, had to get it lengthened 2", the front shocks are mounted, the steering box is on and hooked lined up with the column, had to re-jig the fire wall and get a new line to plumb it in, got the booster set up on the fire wall and working with the pedal, the drivers side inner fender is done, made a battery box and allowance for the boost pipe, and I started on the passengers side inner fender. I have to fit the air box and and heater box some how. Then I will be moving on to the rad support, should be throwing fenders on pretty soon.

Thanks for tuning it!

just went thru yoor thread; looks good
noticed your chrome booster for the brakes. what are you going to use for vacuum with the Cummins?
that was a bit of work making all those door hinge bushings and I hate to tell you after the fact but may save someone else the work. you can buy them at the local auto parts jobber; Lordco. you must have one up there somewhere
ron

Hey padresag,

Thanks! I have a vacuum line that comes off of the power steering pump, the old booster has he same set up so just going to transfer the lines. Yeah the hinges were probably excessive but the front door hinges were more practice for the barn door hinges. I kept getting better at making them hahaha. Saving a bit of money and getting to play with the lathe. I have another set of hinges I plan to do up really nice with full length brass bushings on both sides

GM used the same hinge pin and bushing for 50 years side doors and back doors

I ran a GM hydro-boost set-up when I had my Detroit in my 64
Captfab makes a nice little adaptor to mount them and will give you more brake than that car booster will for your 1 ton
ron

Yeah those do seem easier! Hahaha. Maybe down the road I will switch to a hydro-boost set up. Run this set up for now.

Quick update then back to the shop

Steering all installed, accelerator pedal is in and hooked up, booster master with proprtioning valve on, whipped up a custom air box and incorporated it into the passengers side inner fender, exhaust is hooked up at the turbo, had to chop 4". Hood is on! Moving on to the rad support today wish me luck

Hot Damb! Parts keep going on, it's really coming together now. Lots of tid-ally stuff to do including the electrical. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Pushing to get it on the road, then I can keep at it. Will be so much easier to be able to work on it at home, needs to be a runner first!

Bit of progress yesterday

Got the foundation of the rad support fabricated and bolted to the frame and the drivers side fender on. Hood clears everything and is looking awesome! Will be mounting the intercooler, trans cooler and tying in the rad support with the fenders and grill support

Front end is starting to take shape. Once the front is done I will be tearing out the bed wood, cutting out the new wood, installing the rear axle and suspension, fuel tank and filler neck, fuel lines and brake lines. There is still items on the list but it is getting shorter hahaha
