Getting the front end sanded and buffed in preparation for Mike coming to pick it up! It's looking nice!:metal: One of the fenders didn't turn out quite nice enough, so it got sanded down and repainted, and all is well now.

I really need to get you folks caught up on this build!! The Mrs. and I have been doing a lot of house work in prep for a future sale so I've been balancing that with the truck build. Down and dirty:
-Went up to Jayson's and picked up the fantastically finished front clip. I built three different compartments on my little trailer to safely haul the parts 200 miles; made it without incident thanks to a trip to Harbor Freight for some on sale moving blankets. -Continued the wiring work and have since installed the under dash wiring and finally have all the LS wiring rerouted have started re-looming the wire. Also was able "add" power windows to the build and cut the necessary holes and routed the wiring. -Rebuilt the rear end and brakes and last night installed the flip kit, new leaf springs and e-brake cable. -All the core support pieces have been blasted, repainted and installed. For some reason all my notifications are going to junk email??? I'll have to get that fixed. That's about it! :) |

Power window stuff. I used a GMachinz harness and used well nuts and stainless screws to put it all together instead of rivets.

Very nice detail and even better documentation of your methods. Keep up the work. All that hard work is really turning this truck into one of my favorites

Still slugging away at this. Finally figured out the coil pack arrangement and worked on that tonight. I "may" make a couple brackets in order to move the coils upward about an inches since I have more room than I thought I would. That will give more clearance for other wires etc?????
Pictures: 1. Bracket bolted to right head and left side block. 2. Slowly piecing coils on and figuring out spacing. 3. Shot of drivers side coil bank from underneath. 4-5. Coil wires connected. I have two brackets, so the other one I currently drying after a nice coat of satin black. Tomorrow or Wednesday I'll put it all back together and wrap it up. I need to get the bed floor re-worked and the rest of the box pieces to Jayson so he can do his magic!! Thanks Mike |
Re: Sparky's 1978 Silverado Build "Addiction"

Mike, did you make those coil brackets or buy em?....I saw some almost identical on a squarebody the other day at a show....i like it!...

Re: Sparky's 1978 Silverado Build "Addiction"
Greg, ran across a truck on IG that caught my eye and he had a set hiding behind the intake and I sent him DM. He sent me two brackets that he made on his CNC. Great guy. It's gonna accomplish what I want when it comes to look. :)

Some decent progress this evening. I find this stuff somewhat nerve-wracking to do!!
Pictures: 1-3 Laying out the wood bed one last time so that I can spot weld the side pieces together in order to create one continuous piece for ease of painting and when putting it back together, stability, corrosion etc.. The side pieces will still look factory in appearance, just like the long box version, just one piece. 4. :chevy: 5. A little comparison. Thanks Mike |

those redone coil mounts look slick!!!...your coils are different from mine...i used the truck coils and that made it harder to mount..

I apologize, I've been posting a lot on Instagram and slacking here. So, here's an update:
Pictures: 1-2. Current view of truck. No, it's not a 4x4 now :) 3. I purchased the Dirty Dingo lower Lower AC mount and compressor. I didn't like how the upper located compressor took away from the look I wanted. I finally got the engine started. I runs pretty good at idle. However, it does run rough and somewhat sputter when you apply acceleration. I'm getting the following codes: P0650 Malfunction Indicator Lamp P0068 Throttle Body Airflow Performance The engine was tuned with Speed Density tune in the original truck configuration. I'm guessing that when I rearranged things and relocated the MAP I need a re-tune?????? I'm gonna have to ask the professionals!!! :) Sounds great otherwise. Maybe Mongocanfly will chime in with a solution? :) Thanks Mike PS: My Gmail is sending all my notifications from this site to my junk mail box? I can't get it to stop. BS |
Re: Sparky's 1978 Silverado Build "Addiction"
P0068 is a airflow issue/tps....so I'm guessing it has to do with what you've changed...not much help here
Outside of your tuner,Jonathon might know |
Re: Sparky's 1978 Silverado Build "Addiction"
Like I've said, I know just enough to be dangerous. Is Jonathon "dayj1"?
