Sounds like solid advise. I did mine before the high build, the sealer shrunk a bit and the primer cracked. I get to revisit that now :dohh:

Can't wait to see how those will look. Sometimes I wish I would have went with a brushed face.

Sorry to hear that man, hopefully it isn't to much work for you. Any help on what I should use for seam sealer. I need to start figuring it out, I'm going to need it soon.

I've seen and heard a lot of good from the 3m self leveling stuff. That's the brand that sticks in my head anyways

We used SEM self leveling on my drip rail and just regular SEM seam sealer on everthing else.

I used some Napa branded stuff (tan) that you put into a standard caulking gun. It worked awesome for all the other seams and probably was fine in the drip rail had I not built up so much primer over it.

I've heard good things about Lord Fusor 800EZ too.

Thanks guys, I decided to go with the SEM 2 part epoxy sealer that Rochlow suggested. I bought self leveling for the drip rail and the regular non sagging stuff for everything else. I'll let you guys know how it works out.

Thanks, your right it is a ton of work that even I didn't realize when I started. Blocking on this cab is kicking my butt, I got the firewall done today but still need to do the passenger door frame before spaying more slick sand and doing it all over again, good times

I think i should be able to get some color on by christmas, at least hopefully the inside of the cab will be painted

Looking good Keith. I've been so busy lately it's been hard to keep up with some of the build threads I've been following. Can't wait to see some color on there

Keith, I'm trying to catch up on a lot of the build here today, I was hoping to see some "red" paint  it sure looks like your plugging right along though.

Yeah me too Jason, I am plugging along but this blocking stuff takes forever especially at my slow pace. I did manage to get the rear cab wall straightened out this weekend. It looks much better now.

Keith I expect the Santa red before the fat man comes this year!

I am trying to stay away from your thread though so I can walk into all that work blindly on mine!

No need to stay away you know what you have ahead of you, just sanding until your arms fall off  hopefully your cab is in better shape then mine was, it needed a lot of work but looks pretty good now.

My timelines seem to always be off so it will probably be early January before the cab is painted, I can't wait to see the red jewel after all these countless hours of blocking

Lol Keith, ya I do know what's coming! I see a my arms getting a real workout! Most of the rot in my cab was at the bottom and is currently floorless. I am in the same situation as you were earlier and keep finding more and more areas to fix.

I am hoping to get most of it taken care of over winter and try to catch up!

Love the motivation!

I'm looking forward to the progress you make on your truck, I also may be bending your ear in the very near future about one of those LS motors ;)

So I decided that I want to do something a little different then every Solid Red slant nose I see. I have been wanting to do a two-tone Red with White Top and Grill for a while now but talked myself out of it numerous times basically because I'm a rookie painter and didn't want to complicate things. After doing things that I didn't think I would ever be doing and surprising myself that I can do it, I decided the heck with it, just paint it exactly how I want it. I picked up some GM Olympic White to spray the grill, top and tailgate letters with. I wanted more of a bright white instead of a off white or cream. It should look pretty good with the Torch Red. Made a new rendering with the digital paint booth, what do you guys think?

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Oh and I also decided that I'm going to tear out the BBC/TH400 and swap in a LS with an overdrive trans. The easiest time to do it is now before I put the body back on for the final time, plus I want to be able to fire this truck up and drive it anywhere at anytime. I really would like to take it on a Power Tour some day so it needs a little modern technology powering it. I'm going to start looking after the holidays, would like to get a LS1/4L60E combo if I can find one in my price range with low mileage but I am looking at the 5.3's & 6.0's too. Just hate the look of the truck intake so if I go that route I'll be switching the intake.

I like the 2 tone. Go for it. Are you a member on any ls websites? I can try and keep a eye open for a engine and trans combo if you'd like

I definitely agree you should make it the way you want it now. It sucks to get something done and wish you had done it differently. Especially with paint.

Thanks Buck, my gut says two-tone and a LS motor so that's what it's going to get

I'm a member over on LS1Tech, any other sites you can suggest. I'm going to start looking after the holidays, won't have the funds until then.

Yeah I don't want to regret not painting it the two-tone so I'm going to go for it. Below is a pic of the truck that first made me want it two-tone a few years ago. I just love the color combo :metal:
