Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
Very cool build, definitely out of the box thinking!

You make it look so easy. Keep it up.

The most amazing doors I have ever seen. I just picked up the front clip and doors from the dipshop. They even remarked how nice they are. They look like brand new. Not ONE pinhole of rust in either door, and not even a door ding!!:metal:
My 'electrician' will be looking at the truck this evening to determine where the computer and battery will go. Sorry guys, I won't be using the current battery box.;) |
Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
That sucks about the battery box :P
Very nice news on the doors. |

Envoy dash cover installed. You can see how much wider it was than the 52. I'll improvise with the side vents and headlight switch. Where it attaches to the dash I will heat the plastic and raise it after we install something under the windshield for support and to attach the window trim to.

The response was underwhelming - mostly the sound of crickets. One guy said he had done one and put the ECM inside the cab on top of the tranny tunnel and he had just cut and spliced his harness one wire at a time. I doubt there is an aftermarket "extension harness" available that would make this easier. On my project I think I will be able to keep the ECM inside the engine bay and just fab/mod the bracket a bit. But if I have to move it far enough that it requires cutting the harness then I am going to aim for under the passenger seat. |
Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
Is there room enough to put the ecm in that space to the right of the glove box? I'm not sure how much space you have there but it looks like you could mount the ecm to that bigger bracket and have a removable plate (maybe two) for access.

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
I am taking it tomorrow to a local stereo shop where they will be moving the ECM and the battery. The guy does awesome work and was an electrical engineer for GM. Good creds! He says it will take him less than a day.
We will start fitting the front sheet metal Friday. I think the doors will be on it before I run it to the stereo shop tomorrow. |
Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
Can you post up a pic of the underhood by the ecm? If its bolted to the intake like my wifes I didnt think clearance would be a prob. Looking good though
I stumbled across this the other day. pretty much the same idea, kinda. http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2763036 Nick |
Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
I did the opposite on my Jeep....I took 36" out of all the wires going to the ECM. One good night with my soldering iron and heat shrink and I had it done. One wire at a time, and find a comfortable position to sit in and it's not too bad.

(And no, the back door isn't 'taped' on. The tape covers sharp edges on the tin used to strap the door on for fitment.) |

Now that's :c2:

I know its a little early in the process, but I'm thinkin tail lights . . .
HHR, 2003 Vette, 2000? Cadillac, 1952 Burb, 41-48 Chev pass. car, frenched. |
Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
1952 Burb,
41-48 Chev pass. car, frenched. Like the Burb best, the frenched would be cool too as they would match your panel. The more I see the HHR the more it grows on me. Loving the build ! |
Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
I think to continue the "old mixed with modern" theme you've got going on, you have to use the HHR tail lights.

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
Hhr!!!!

Im diggin the HHR's, I found this and it gave me a chuckle:lol:

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build
Have been leaning towards the HHR's frenched into the door. The back door will have a pushbutton opener just to the right of the window. I want it to disappear into the darker upper color.
