Quarter is all welded up and now it's time to sand.
Hadn't mentioned it yet but these were swb bedsides that I separated the inner bedside from the outer bedside and then mounted the skin to the blazers inner. Not the easiest way to do it but with the spray in liner and the roll cage, pulling off the entire quarter would of been even worse. |
Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer
Lookin' good. That does sound like a kick in the butt ton of work. You sure your gonna be able to let it go after all this sprucing up?

Wondered out about 10:00a.m. this morning...and 12 hours later there was etching primer.
Epoxy primer in the a.m. tomorrow. All that's left now to finish up before delivery is to install the windshield, the tail-gate, tail-lights & hard top. How about that fancy exhaust set up? :o |
Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer
Very nice high tech set up...looks like something I would come up with.
Nice work. |
Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer
Primer looks good. Good call on the fan, I used one of those 3' barrel fans in the doorway.
|
Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer
Couple really small spots that didn't feather out so well, so I'm touching em up with a wee bit of mud but then it's primer & done with the painting.
The fan, truth be known, works pretty decent. I considered mounting it directly into the roll up door (fits between the panels good) but I have no reasonable way of sealing it back up after use and/or the winter months. The plug & play aspect would be nice though... |
Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer
i've seen a drawing in the hot rod magazine a while back where they made a frame with some 2 by 4 's stuck straight up in a buckets of concrete with some smaller beams across and a tent made from clear plastic sheeting
they used a normal standing fan through a hole cut intoo the plastic ......... it should work ok and might save some time on dusting off the shop to prevent anything from landing in the paintjob . things i usually do is wet the floor to catch any left over dust from blowing up when walking past the car with size elevens painting the sides and hang a chain from the car to the floor to prevent static electricity from blowing up the place when spraying high flamable paint and solvents in the air |

All good points and if I ever intended to paint in the home garage again, I'd use em but this is a one time event in order to get this project out the door.
A good friend has a body shop business just seven miles away, I'm always welcome to use it as my own and if the weather had allowed transport when the blazer was ready to spray, that's where it would be right now. |
Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer
wish i had friends like that that would save me a lot of trouble

Yeah, it's a great benefit but even better is the fact that he loves these old trucks like we do. He bought a '71 new back in the day and still drives it to this day, never bought anything else since! :metal: |

Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer
Nice work, turned that around quick! Looking purdy fir the second TIME. How are you healing?
|
Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer
Yeah, how goes the recovery? You must be getting around ok.
What kind of primers did you use? I'm looking to spray a little on my Jimmy. |

Healing well, can't really feel much of the operation any more but the Doc says that's when ya need to watch out, thanks for asking. Quote:
Feel way better, good to have it patched up. What kind as in what brand? I use paint sold by my local NAPA store, it's Martin Senior brand. Green coat is etching primer, mixed 1:1 Gray primer is the epoxy coat and in the economy level gets mixed in two parts at 4:1, no reducer needed. Decent stuff, sprays okay. |

Re: Went to a Bigger Blazer
Rule of thumb for us generally is if the panel is say 20%/30% bare metal we'll etch it but if they're just small bare spots, no.
With luck, delivery happens tomorrow. Me and the boy plan on leaving VT around 4:00am. His first real road trip btw. |
