Nice work on the scoop! That metal sure has a mind of it's own once you start placing tacks. It can be a real aggravation. But, you are doing nice work of it.

I filled in the corners last night. It took a little finesse, but it wasn't too bad. I am pretty happy with how this is coming out.

That looks mean! You have some fab skills. I vote tunnel ram for the big block haha.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
Thanks, I learn new skills just about every time I walk into the shop. The most important part is that I am not scared to go for it. When I was younger there were a lot of projects that I didn't take on because I didn't know how. Now, I just dive in and see what happens.
Tunnel ram huh??? :hmm: |
Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
tunnel ram, got to have hilborn injection!

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
That looks awesome! Is the expanded metal staying there?

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
I will have some kind of mesh. It will be finer than the piece in the pic and recessed about an inch into the opening.

Awesome job on the hood!!

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
Since I didn't do too well at a pool tournament this weekend I ended up getting a little time in the shop. I started the other side of the hood.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
Hood looks intense! Very cool.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
That is looking very nice! I really like it!

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
Thanks Guys.
Almost done with the basic shape of things then I just need to place a couple thousand tacks. I need to swing by my steel supplier and see what I can find for expanded metal. I will be using that for the front intake, the rear side cowl vents and probably the grill. |
Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
That hood is going to be awesome!

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
Got kind of a Mad Max vibe to it along with an old WW2 era plane look. That's without paint, regardless, looks awesome!

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
I love this build and the concept behind it. Keep up the good work! When you decide to ditch that front bumper, I would be interested in buying it off you.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
I got all of the main structure done. Next is building the frames for the screens in the front inlet and the rear vents. I need to go over to a buddies and use his break for that. Of course I just found out my buddy had a hatchet incident at a scouting event today. Hopefully he is up to me coming over tomorrow.

I used some pieces from the donor hood and some generic body repair panels to get the folded edge. |
Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
Looks real good. Is the gmt400 in the background another project?

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
I actually started working on my truck again. Nothing too exciting is getting done, but things are getting done. I finished spraying the floor with undercoating and got back to work on the bodywork on the rockers and corners. This area doesn't have to be perfect as I will be coating the bottom six or so inches of the truck with bed liner. Since I had to patch a couple areas on the side cowl area (whatever that is called) I shot some flat white paint I had laying around on it. I really like how the flat white shows the bends and shadows.

Looking good. Little by little they always tell me.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
I found some smaller expanded metal and threw together a screen for the intake. I'm not sure if I like the expanded metal or not, but it will work.
