You're making some outstanding progress Joe! :metal:

I would just find a sandblaster that doesn't use silica sand and take the cab to him instead of soda. I've heard of some paint issues from blasting with soda.

Thanks Capt!
what issues have you heard of?
you think I should find one that uses walnut shells or ???
just don't want regular sand to heat up the metal and warp it.
i haven't really researched it much yet....

I can't remember details at the moment, but some primers may not react well to any residual soda that may be present, and I'm not sure how well soda really is for removing rust.

My friend that does a lot of blasting for local restoration and hot rod shops uses copper slag......looks like black sand. Nickel slag works well too....it's greenish.

That is definitely an issue, but it is not caused just by the sand. It has everything to do with the operator and his knowledge of blasting automotive sheet metal.

Try checking with some local restoration, and body shops and see who they use/ recommend

thanks for the info
i will look further into it
I talked to Musclerodz awhile back and he told me of a blasting company around here that uses plastic media, so i will look into it

A fella that I work with sells/restores mopars and parts. He swears by the plastic media blasting.

As Captainfab had stated, if there is any of the soda left in cracks and crevices (and how would you possibly get it all out of the seams??) it can cause you paint heartache later.

On the subject of using sand, someone that is experienced with a sandblaster will not have any issues with metal warpage. The problem is finding a reputable 'blaster in my area.

Yeap, if you dont know what your doing, sandbasting WILL definately heat-warp the metal...I seen it first hand on my buddys 69 GMC hood.

cool, i will be looking into the plastic next week......
not much progress today
moved the engine perches to the forward holes (still need to drill the cross member for the lower bolts) and mounted the 700R4 to the 283 for mock up....found out the motor mounts are SHOT, the rubber has completely separated. I need to go pick up motor mounts and a trans mount before I can build a cross member :banghead:
i have a set of the newer style motor mounts and perches that i'm debating on using........
disclaimer: the trans is no where near the proper/final position, it is just sitting on blocks to hold it up for now.....

Lookin' good Joe,I like your fabricated "cab lifter" and it's adjustable.

As far as blasting,I've been using coal slag or Black Beauty fine grit,it will remove rust and paint. It will heat up if you stay in one spot too long, but doesn't pit very much.
I found that for paint removal that a steam cleaner works really well.

That cab lifting tooling is outstanding! :metal:

Time to start renting it out, or sell plans for us to make it. Looks like it worked slicker than snot! Congratulations on your design and follow-thru.

Man seeing yours apart kinda annoys me because it makes me feel super lazy for not doing anything.

Thanks for all the cab pictures. Nice to see that gizmo in action
