Re: my 87 chevy project
Just so I got you right, your motor went out and you have another one coming from a buddy, right? Your post was a little confusing.

Re: my 87 chevy project
yes thats correct. sorry for the confusion i tor down the 305 mostly by my self with help of another buddy and pulled the block and bottom end with my dad.

Re: my 87 chevy project
yea the 350 is carb so i have to change intakes and all new gaskets, get a flywheel, oil pump scence were going to be right there and change the oil filter adapter cuz my radiator don have a oil cooler spot for it. and i may swap my cam and lifters
|
Re: my 87 chevy project
cool, just be sure to use a mild cam . because your tbi will NOT like it haha. How bad was the 305? you can use your intake from your old motor on the new one.. I think you will want to get injectors for a 350 and a ecm or atleast the prom from a 350 ecm so it will run at its best.

Re: my 87 chevy project
and i going to try to repaint the hole engine bay and put in the passenger inner finder(new one)
|
Re: my 87 chevy project
no i have a 2 year old rv cam in the 305 now that we put it in when we rebuilt it. all the bearings and rings are shot. lifters seem to be great so i still deciding if i want to swap what yall think?

Re: my 87 chevy project
RJ, you can use the factory TBI from the 305 on the 350 without a chip change...you should be able to install the whole TBI top end including the heads on the 350...just fyi

Re: my 87 chevy project
Was years ago a used to be friend of mine replaced the rod knocking 305 to 350 and no other changes. It ran fine in the low end but if you kicked it when it got to 4000 RPM it fell flat on it`s face and went into a bog. We did a plug chop and found it was going dead lean. He later swapped the injectors over and this helped a great deal but it didn`t entirely cure it. Next came a 350 ECM and a knock sensor and that cured it. I`m not saying knock sensors can`t be interchanged but it was my understanding they work off frequencey and if that`s the case there is different frequencey`s created by different bore sizes. With the 350`s bore being considerably larger and since knock sensors are cheap, I`d swap it.

Re: my 87 chevy project
yeah the pcv port is usually always clogged up too. easy fix tho. get you a tbi rebuild kit and go through it. Not too hard.
