Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
Hey guys I'm back!!! I keep lurking around my favorite builds and watch the progress. Some of you guys are SICK and really need some serious therapy!!!!! :haha: And you know who you are!!!!!!! Anyway I was talking to a local tuner yesterday and he offered to do a dyno tune on my truck this Friday if I can get some free time to go by. I will post the final results after I get them.

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
Dude! I just read the entire thread. So glad you got the swap finished. I'm so happy for you. Lots of great info too. Did you ever get the dyno tune?

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
Hey Guys. Been away for a while. Truck is running great. Haven't made any changes. As for the Dyno Tune I haven't taken it by because the shop that was going to do it can't flash the ECM. They are mainly a Ford (Mustang shop). They said they would do the pulls to get a baseline but I would have to buy a tuner to reprogram it. Been talking to MTI here in Atlanta and they are very interested in seeing it and tuning it for me, just haven't had the time to take it by. Work keeps getting in the way. :waah:

Hey Guys: Installed a front sway bar yesterday, Man what difference. Bought a 12 bolt posi with 373 gears today, got a rear disc conversion kit from CPP will start that this weekend also looking to do a 3/4 drop with 18" wheels soon. If any of you have pics of LWB with a 3/4 drop please post pics so I can get an idea of what mine might look like. Thanks

This is why I swapped to the 6.0L. If I do a 4" axle flip on the rear will it still tow my boat? I don't use the truck to haul heavy loads in the bed, but I still want to tow my boat.

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
Helper bags will get you back up to towing height

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
My previous '86 LWB had a shackle and hanger (4" drop) on it and I towed my 19.5' Chapparal with no issue at all, but I tow the same boat now with my 2wd Blazer with a flip in the rear without issue either. You won't have a problem at all with a 4" drop.

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
Your truck is looking great! What did the rear end come out of? Do you know what model truck rear ends will fit our 79 GMCs?
|
Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
I know the rearend out from under a '73-'87 1/2 ton square fits without any modifications and the newer '88-'98 rearends will fit with minimal modification (read relocate the spring pads and the shock brackets)...I put the rearend out from under a '96 1500 in my last '87 GMC 2wd.

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
I'm new here. I been looking this thread and I love the truck. I know the thread was last year but I want to know how this truck would tow my Camaro on a open trailer ?
Thanks for the help. |
