I thought you meant how to change it. In your case just paint it a nice black that will blend with the paint of the truck but still be different. Not flat black though. Ick

By the way, I'm curious what you use to do your sand blasting?

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

Hey everyone. Its been awhile since I have been gone I got all the motor bay painted and all of the interior done. Minus the doors. I have some money due to a summer job so Im buying-a complete longbed 1983 chevy, a 1981 short bed minus the motor and the front clip, 2 front clips and a cab. So Ill probably be parting them out. My main question is that if I can put new doors from the 1983 that has power windows on my 1980 and just run some wires to the battery to make the power windows work.

Not much progress but its all back togeather. Heres some before pictures:

And some Afters:

After new spark plug wires:

So now the worse part. As I said Im taking the doors off the 83 but now I'm thinking of taking the whole front clip right after I got this one all painted and nice. so I can have a phantom grille like below and also so I can get a better hood and fenders. So has anyone else done this transfer? Some advice on it and suggestions would be nice. Thanks guys.

Looks a lot better.

You can use the power doors off the other truck. You would want to set them up off a relay system. Just take a look at some companys that sell kits for power windows and locks and figure out the wiring that you need.

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

Not alot. Being a farm kid the summer is very busy.
I did start this thread and I think Im gonna go through with the front clip switch. The other clip is in alot better condition. I think I can rope my freinds into helping me too.

Hey be thankful that you HAVE a cab its not too fun to run one of the cabless combines...

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

Hell I would almost want one with out a cab. Just a little canopy. Atleast wind would get in :P

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

I used to bail hay with my grandfather in Ohio when i was younger... Working on a farm in the heat is bad with or without a cab.

Although, maybe you could buy one of those little personal fans and clip it to something near you so you have a little air flow.

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

I may do that man.

So I'm thinking of a new carb guys. What do you think? I was think just a 650 edelbrock.

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

that should work fine
my little marine holley 650 works great
it may be a little too much carb
what are you planing on doing to the engine again?

Dudewith4x4 06-26-2010 01:18 PM

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

Well I'm get a truck for 100$ that has a good body that does run and its got headers and some chrome valve covers so Im gonna trade then for a high rise alumium intake thats made by weiland. Then but a new carb on and maybe a new distributor. Idk. What do you think Gage?

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

Anything else I should do? I roped my cousin into doing it. He said he'll do it for free and it wont take him long.

jgh64pkup 06-27-2010 12:46 AM

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

so your trading the headers and valve covers for an intake?

Dudewith4x4 06-27-2010 12:52 AM

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

jgh64pkup 06-27-2010 01:15 AM

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

wow that looks great
and i would just sandblast the intake and spray some quality aluminum paint on it

Dudewith4x4 06-27-2010 01:23 AM

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!

I cant use a sandblaster right now do to school is out. would cleaning it up with steel wool and painting it with some silver engine paint work? maybe paint the letters black. Or red. Idk.

Thanks for the comploment gage.
