Guys: If you have noticed that I put the lower A frame arms on the wrong side. I had the shock brackets on the front. It would be impossible to mount the shocks. It's not like I have not done this before. I can almost do it blind folded. So today I took it apart and switched the lower A frams arms. And also installed the steering linkage on the same truck. Now I have 4 wheels to get tires for and I will have a second rolling chassis. Everything is working like it should.

Today I was looking at the truck and I found one of my welds that I was so pround of on the roof, gave way. Now I have to reweld it and this time do it right. Someone put a hole in te middle of the roof. I guess it was for a radio or a CB.

Caught the fue bug. Have not been outside untill today. I noticed a build on TV and I started me to think. How important is it to have the upper A arms in the center. I have mine about 1/4 inch off center. If it does matter I need to take it apart again and fix the problem.

I also have a hole in my roof that needs patched that a previous owner put there too. Must have been a trend.

Today, I decided to take the upper control arms off and center them. They were 1/4 inch off center. I asked if anyone ever came across with this, but decided too it anyway. So now they are on right. Also welded up the hole in the cab roof. and put a little bondo and tomorrow I will sand it down and it is complete. Taking short cuts sometimes does not pay off. If any body ask there is a difference between the left and right upper control arms. There is a little hump and it goes to the front of the truck. If you don't do this the hump will be in the way to turn the spendle to turn.

What part of the A arm is off center, and how did it get that way? I don't notice anything in the pics. I probably should check mine. Looks like you are making good progress, good job.

If you look at the picture you can see a gap on the right and nothing on the left. Where the upper control bolts to the cross member. I just jacked up the lower control arm to compress the coil springs a little and I took the upper ball joint cotter pin and nut off. Then I took the two nuts that hold the upper control to the cross member and truned it in the direction it needed to go. It took me about 30 to 45 minutes. But I am slow. and 62 years old so I took a break in my chair every few minutes. Just getting over the flu. Good luck my friend. and happy building.

Today I went over to a friends house and he gave me two shocks bolts where they bolt thru the frame. Mine were broke both of them. And a new door panel and a window crank asy. He has a few 67 thru 72 trucks. I also got two new door handles for the outside of the door from LMC trucks.

So after I came home I steel wool the two chrome pieces for the outer grille. Thn I painted them black. they were in bad shape that is why I painted them black And they will stand out against the orange I am going to paint the truck.

Re: 1968

Here is list of things I orded.
Radiator core support, inter fender, inter rocker panel, floor pan section, lower rear pilar, dash pad (black), left and right door, door pin repair kit for two doors, left and right vent window, cab mounts and core support mounts with bolts and rubber bumpers kits for the entire truck. Benzle dash and circuit plate and lens.
I know when they come in I will be ordering some more things I forgot. But this will keep me busy for a while.

Nice grill pieces.
Door handles are sweet too.
When they bring you those parts there will be two truck for that delivery???:metal:

gdavis 01-27-2013 07:32 PM

Re: 1968

Yea, I think so. I am not going to let them deliver them. I am taking my neighbor 16 ft trailor down when he calls me that he has al my parts.

Here is another list of parts I am ordering from Classic parts.

wiring diagram.
grille moulding clips.
wheel studs.
spindle dusk caps.
brake hose front left and right.
brake hose rear.
gasket for the rear end cover.

Also I was on criags list last night and I going to buy a tilt colum for 60.00 and a gas tank for my truck. 98 model I know I will have to deal with figuring out the install but what a deal.

A friend has a 283 engine that has been rebuilt with less that 5000 miles on it. I am trying to talk him into selling it to me. But no luck at this point.

I will be needing it in the future on another build. I am going to make a 67 from the 72 frams. I have all the parts for the rolling chassis but a transmission and motor. anyway this is where I am at now.

The Chevrolet Gen III Vortec 5300 series 5.3L engine, variants include LM7/L59/LM4/L33, produced from 1999-2007, combined with a 4L60E transmission would be a great choice for your truck, I'm putting one in mine.

Went on Craig List last night and found a 1967 chev short wheel base truck for 400.00 so I called and someone took a saw to the frame and took the front end off the truck. So all is left is the cab. So I offered 200.00 for the cac and door and fenders and he said ok. So Thursday I will go and pick it up. Also there was a short step bed on crags list for 300.00 he has two of them. But this month I have spend enough so Next month I will call and see.

Re: 1968

I also bought a distribtor, starter, water pump long shaft, fuel pump, 2 heads for a 350 all for 40.00. what a deal.couldn't pass that up. They look like new.

Re: 1968

I wonder what condition those short step beds are in, if one of them is in atleast good condition its worth way the heck more than he is asking.

He has two. One is still together and the other one is apart and primed. The way they looked they look like they are in good shape. But when I get there I will see what pictures don't show.

Today, I cleaned up the parts that I got off Craig List last night.

1 Starter (rebuilt)
1 fuel pump (new)
1 water pump long shaft (new)
1 HEI distrubtor (used)
2 350 cast iron heads (used)

So I did not like the satin black on the started and water pump so I painted them orange and black

Today, I just couldn't get motivated. I only polish the Chevrolet emblem on the front of the truck. And painted the center red. The orginal color. Or should it be orange? The color of the truck.

Fridy I am going to the central part of Florida and pick up my new 67 cab. I realy don't need the cab. The price of the cab is 200.00 and I get a ton of parts to go with it. I bought it for the doors.

LOL! you are going to end up with two complete trucks if you arent carefull. Its expensive enough to finish just one let alone two.

I knew the deal on the truck cab was too good to be true. The cab was a small window 67 and it has a lot of issues. But I bought it for the doors anyway. I tried to get just the door but he wanted I think someone to hawl off the cab. I don't know what I am going to do at this point with the otherframe. I am still working on just one for now. But who knows.
