Took Big Red and got some paint correction and UndrDog treatment. My my my, I can’t believe my own eyes! The color is so much brilliant now. He got out a few surface scratches and a lot of sand marks & white spots in the paint. I am beyond impressed!

The town where I live had it 21st Annual Hot Summer Nights Cruise In. My brother came up with his Honda Civic. There were 385 cars in attendance. We all congregate at the Fairgrounds for registration. Then the parade starts from there into Downtown, which is all blocked off for us to park. It was a beautiful evening and had an awesome turnout.

Well since Big Red is pretty much put away for the winter, I started on doing some things that have been on the back burner.
First up is, I have had a set of NOS lamps to replace the aftermarket ones, in the front bumper. |

I did get some Holley Retro led lights for Big Red. I don’t like the LED’s that look like LEDs at first glance. I like the idea, but I wanted to keep the looking like the stock lights, and these foot the bill. They finally got delivered, so now I just need to install them.

One thing I have always been missing, is my vin tag on the door. The previous owner must have removed it, or something. Well I finally found a place that remakes them, and it arrived today in the mail.

Finally getting started on the new headlights. I got the old ones out, but got sidetracked. After getting the buckets and headlights removed, I found a bolt missing. I believe the core support or the bumper filler, to the fender, maybe. Also found a couple of speed nuts missing from the surround trim.
Spent some time polishing up some of the trim parts while it’s in the disassembled stage. |

I did get the LED marker light bulbs in. Had to take the grill lose to get enough room to get the connector & bulb away from the lamp housing. Kind of wished I would have gotten LED bulbs for the bumper lights now, lol.

I also ordered the LED Bulbs for the bumper lights. Fiqured I might as well since I’m doing the other lights.
The headlights themselves, I was missing the harness adapters. In the video for how to install the lights, he specifically says the adapters are included in the kit with the harness. Well it wasn’t, so now I need to wait on those to get here. Video for the headlight installation https://youtu.be/rX1lMox7kWQ |

Still haven’t gotten to the headlights yet. I got the adapters and then when I finally got around to installing them, I was missing the connectors. So I got those ordered and they were delivered today. So the plan is to get the lights in this weekend!
Another little project that came about suddenly. I bought a set of seatbelts on eBay to clean and restore. But when they arrived, they were way better than I expected. These things are almost perfect. I have a nice set in Big Red now, but these are BETTER! They only needed some very minor cleaning and a little rust removal from the mounts. I also lubed the mechanisms. So I’ll be swapping these into the truck. I already have NOS center belts, so I’ll leave those. Here’s a few pics of the belts I bought, before & after |

Some more updates.
Back on post #423, those seatbelts were swapped into Big Red. The seatbelts that I had in there were nice. But these were the very first set of seatbelt that I ever restored. I expanded a lot on what I do with the belts when I restore them now. So these will get that treatment, and then sold. Then I took the aftermarket pedals out. I had acquired a set of NOS pedal pads several months ago, so I got those installed today also. |
Re: My 86 build
Very nice Tina. Much better with the factory pedals.

Gotta a question about the fender emblems. I like both ways, with and without. I’ve had a set for quite sometime now, with 3M tape. I always said once I get the truck detailed, I would put them on. What are your thoughts? Should I leave them off or put them on?
1st pic is Big Red The other photos are random pics I found. |
Re: My 86 build
Your truck looks amazing either way but for me emblems on for sure. All or none on the stock trim.
|
Re: My 86 build
I'm a fan of all or none too.
|
Re: My 86 build
I can understand the dilemma because your truck looks so clean without. But by nature, these trucks were labeled and badged and the fonts / medallions / etc. were all just part of the era. I think those big badges are part of what makes them cool. I believe you have the hood ornament, and I think that if you have that, it makes the fender badges a fer-sure.

Re: My 86 build
Tina, I like the emblems on our trucks, My feeling if you delete them it should be on a more "custom" and "show" truck.... agree though... either way your truck is looking terrific!

Not really truck related, but I did find a GM Binder for my manual. It needed one bad!

Re: My 86 build
That's a cool binder. Where did you find that?
