This "Steelie" thread is finding it's way back into a "Rallye" thread. I like them. But,just because they are made out of steel it doesn't make then steelies,as mentioned before, for those who actually read threads.

I pulled my 9.75x 16.5s out and sold them to a guy. I'll miss them, but between a set of 9.75 aluminum slots and a set of 8.25 steelies I think I'm good. If I even want 10" steelies (for a third set of tires) I'll order those like above. Man,I hate selling my stuff! |

Special-K. Nice! Where did you get those from?
They were special order through summit, made by wheel vintiques. Summit was $149 w /$12 handling. Wheel vintiques direct was $126 w /$150 ship. Saved a little due to summits volume I guess. Inspired by vectorits burb. Love the 68 w/ that wheel combo.. Posted via Mobile Device |

So now , I need to buy two more if anyone can help me out here...... I'll re paint as necessary , to suit original 15" 6 lug rims . Hm , it won't allow me to copy the image of the white wheel & white steel hub cap from above.... |

I'll send you an extra cap I have laying around, but it is not as nice the ones I sold you. It will definitely have to be "RESTORED". Send me a PM with your address. Dano |
Re: Whose on Steelies? Post 'em up!
I'm on these until I complete engine swap and paint. I'm thinking about 17" steelies (10" rear) and 20" Coys or something billet

Re: Whose on Steelies? Post 'em up!
My 2wd 70 gmc has the original 15" stock steelies which i plan on reusng after a frame off. Measuring best I can with tire on pulling a wire through the rim the wheel appears to be 7" wide. Does this sound right or should it be a 15"x8" which people seem to describe as stock? I'm trying to figure the largest (tallest) tire i can put on my wheel with stock height. Thanks in advance.

I thought that I had posted on this thread, but after reading front to back I realized that I hadn't. Lots of nice pickups here and I love the steelie look. The last picture is me, so you could say that I grew up with the steelie look....

Re: Whose on Steelies? Post 'em up!
366c20: looks like based on your tire size you've got a 33" tire in the well. Good info to know. Thanks for sharing.
Since i can get up to that size under the truck with stock suspension, i could wrap my wheels with a 33x10.5r15 if the rims are 8" wide. However, if their 7" i'm gonna be limited by the width (maybe a 33x9.5r15? - really narrow). Can anybody confirm the stock width 7" or 8"? |
Re : Stock Rim Width
I have the original 15" 6 lug wheels from a 1969 C/10 that was ordered with HD suspension & brakes but a 250 CID L6 three speed tranny and heavy duty clutch ~ they are 7" wide .
Maybe the 8" wide rims were for Camper Specials ? . |
Re: Whose on Steelies? Post 'em up!
thanks. That confirms my suspicions.
|
Re: Whose on Steelies? Post 'em up!
I believe most stock 15" wheels are 5 1/2"-6". I believe the 7" wheels were on later K-models. There were never any 8 x 15 wheels offered on these trucks. The wider option was 8.25 x 16.5 and I've only seen that on K-models

I have 31x10.50's on 8" wheels and they seem to run a little narrower than a 10.50 should. I see no problem with putting them on a 6 or 7 inch wheel. I can get a pic for you if you'd like. |

15x5.5's in front and 15x8's in the rear... for now anyways. I have a pair of 8's for the front that I will be swapping in soon...
