Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
Put the burb up on the lift to check things out. Had to replace the collector gaskets, put some "dead soft" AL. ones in...those should seal/last better.
Had a little seepage around the tail shaft housing, tightened that up a bit...also took measurements for a one-piece driveshaft to replace the weaker two-piece. Other than that, everything looked alright...couple thousand miles since getting it on the road now. :metal::metal: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7315/9...cc3543dc_c.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5339/9...386e205f_c.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5494/9...1c6a2f3b_c.jpg Pic of the 1 1/2" spacer we made a couple months ago to drop it a bit... http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5525/9...7675ee15_c.jpg |

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
Worked on the underside rear fenders a bit...cleaned them up, shot some primer on the bare metal, and undercoated them.
Looking at burb from this angle sure makes the frame look ratty! http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2852/9...02d3f0c7_c.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3677/9...95b40372_c.jpg |
Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
We've had near perfect weather around here for the last couple days...mid 80's, 5-10 mph breeze, really nice for mid-August!
Got the yard work done early, so the wife and I took the burb for a cruise down to the lake to let the dog swim and catch a sunset. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7317/9...eafe0498_c.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2812/9...2ef880d3_c.jpg |
Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
Fenders look good...& don't feel bad, my frame looks ratty too! At least yours matches the character of your exterior. Like you, I kinda have a mix-match of clean stuff & areas that could use attention. Hopefully I'll get around to it one day.
Great sunset pics! |
Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
Thanks Phillip, I hear ya on the mix and match...it's just that the ratty parts sure look worse next to the clean stuff!! :waah::lol:
|
Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
That's a sunset worthy of framing :)
|
Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
that's what undercoating is for. Nice sunset x2. Should stop and look at one more often, thanks.

nice water sunset

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
Lots of new stuff for you guys! House with shop space upgrades to the Burb, evening cruises to the lake. Sounds like a bit of Heaven going on.
What's the plan for the back seat? With the tubs widened the stock seat no longer fits correct? How about individual buckets or maybe 2007 and up Tahoe 3rd seats. Good thing you own that, if I did it would have become a 4x4! |

Stock seats are long gone. I'll eventually have some suspension benches made to match the front buckets...long and short or maybe just a long that could fit behind or in-front of the tubs. For the time being, our lab likes it without anything in his way! Oh trust me, we seriously considered making it a 4X...almost everything we have is! I'm really enjoying it as a road toy though...we're having a blast with it!:burnout: |
Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
I had an old truck driveshaft cut down to fit the burb...saved me a couple bucks but it's a bit big at 4" dia., but hey, its stronger:metal:
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5537/9...2c072be6_c.jpg The old shaft had 1350 joints (plenty for what I'm doing), so I swapped out the yokes on the tranny and axle...just a little bigger ;) http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5466/9...0ea8d35c_c.jpg Pulled out the old two-piece and cut out the carrier mount... http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3676/9...566f34f4_c.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2862/9...7542bd84_c.jpg The offset of the pinion caused the larger dia. shaft to ride against the pass side of the crossmember. I cut out the pass side of the reinforcing lip and moved it outboard 3/4". http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2856/9...97321046_c.jpg Test fit before final welding...good enough clearance all around... http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5443/9...2d123209_c.jpg Welded up... http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7324/9...6121ab1e_c.jpg Done deal :metal: Vibrations are gone and no worries about strength! http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7420/9...b87e16d3_c.jpg |

hey i was just watching the discovery channel and this show called street outlaws is filmed in your area lol..and just thinking with you putting in that larger drive shaft makes me think that maybe you were going to race the burb?? now i know that you being a law abiding citizen you would not street race lol

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
But if you by chance do race, get video to share with us.

Spent the day hanging out at the GoodGuys 21st Lonestar Nationals at the Texas Motor Speedway today...lots of really cool rides, many were trucks, one other burb that I saw...I was seriously out-classed though:lol::lol:, but we turned a couple heads :metal:

Been uploading pics that my son took, we'll post more in a thread started in the 60-66 general forum.
We lined up early to get a good spot...most didn't :uhmk:, don't know if we'll do that again ...couple predawn shots... |
Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
Very cool! I saw that he posted him getting ready to haul back to town, i bet that it was a cool show :metal:
|
Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
Yea, really good show...overwhelming amount of cool stuff to look at. We found ourselves walking past stuff we normally would have drooled over...just too much to take in!! Weather was a bit sucky with the front blowing through, 70's to 50's in a half hour! At least the rain held off for the most part until late in the day...wanted to take a couple laps around the track, decided we better load up instead. Definitely want to hit the spring Good Guys show...need to get a caravan going!!

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
Awesome BURB! love everything you are doing and I am copying your rear sway bar-thanks for the info.

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
Thanks!! I can't take credit for the idea...got it here somewhere and just made it fit our set-up. Glad it helps though :metal:

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build
