wood stained color is great

A picture of the wood finished. I also plan on using some matching wood in the interior.

Fabricated some cup holders. I figured this would take a couple hour. I only underestimated that by about 6 hours. The first one took 5 attempts. They have a slight taper which made it more difficult.

Also installed my new seat belts. For the shoulder anchor I welded a nut to a 3x6” 14 gauge plate. Then fished them up with some welding wire and spot welded them in place. Worked well!

Little more progress today. Working on the interior door panels. Welded a tab to the door to anchor the handles to. You can see the plate I put in the handle in the second picture that bolts to the tab. Also finished installing the door slinkys (as I call them) for the door wiring.

Very nice work! Those door pulls on the panels are going to be sweet.

Decided to weld in a matching dimple for the push button start. Harvested one from a section of the dash I cut out. Also spent hours tweaking the passenger door. When the doors didn’t fit from the factory to begin with, it’s amazing how difficult they are to fit properly. Hopefully going to prime everything else tomorrow before I start laying filler.

Correct… they are AC vents. Here’s a picture of what they look like installed.

One last thing before I prime. I haven’t been happy with the hidden latches in the tailgate. The way they stuck out, I know I or someone else would chip the paint where they made contact. So I moved them further in and built a small ramp so the gate latches when I close it. Problem solved :metal:

Re: My 56 build

Good catch on the latches. Those were definitely a future paint chip waiting to happen! Those ramps blend nicely.

Re: My 56 build

will you have a rubber bumper for the gate to rest against when closed?
you could install a "striker slipper plate" of stainless to cover the painted ramp you made, then the rubbing area on the ramp would always look good because there would be no paint to scratch as the latch striker pin moves up to the latch hole. a piece of teflon may also work well. just a thought. something you could screw on so it is replaceable.
nice work so far, great attention to the little details.

Thanks DS. Definitely, stainless is a good idea. I was going to come up with something like that.

Thanks slammed. You must be getting close to painting. I’m starting to lay body filler this weekend. Today I primed everything I had left in bare metal. Here’s a couple pictures

Re: My 56 build

it is so self gratifying when you lay primer over something you spent hours on and it comes out looking smooth.
looks awesome, keep it up and you'll be driving. do you have a final color picked, for the umpteenth time? lol.

The color is going to be hermosa blue. It’s a factory infinity color. A dark pearl blue. Should flop nicely with all the curves on these trucks. Thinking of a metallic gray for frame and under the hood.

How do you keep rides secure with the pushbutton starts? I like the idea, although i do kind of also like the idea of a swinging old keychain.

Re: My 56 build

I use the VIAS Technology SEER system. Simple and programable. Disengages what you want and you carry a fob on a keychain instead of a key.

Re: My 56 build

Just as Tdishon said, it’s fob activated. I’m using the same technology to activate my door entry system

Ohhh that's fancy. I might stay down here with the peasants and a key for now, but saving this for the future truck that has the sexy chassis and all that.

Wasn’t happy with the window switches that came with my kit. They were 80’s Chevy truck style. So I went with 2000 Monte Carlo switches. The express down works too.

Then I started to make the wood cover for the top of my door handles. Im going to use a blue stained panel on the lower part of the door and continue that through the kick panel. The door panel and handle will be covered in tan material.
