I used to get them in in my shop and asked the customers if they didn't like it why not sell it now and get some $ out of it because the junkyard never gives anything for them no matter how clean the vehicle is underneath that embarrassing paint job . The same goes for home brew camo paint jobs.... |

I'm one of those who actually like old Military vehicles . We had an Harley Davidson 45" trike too, from Ayers A.F.B. . |

I know so .
They're hard to sell, America is littered with them and the ones on the Military bases are hard pressed to get $1,000 for one these days . |

Here in the rust belt no military bases have if any and the survivors are quite easy to sell because they don't survive the salt |
Re: Abandoned, neglected square body trucks rotting away...
Understood .
Many of them have been transferred to National Guard bases where they sit deteriorating . Oddly enough, we bought quite a few surplus vehicles for farm use in New England in the 1960's, some were rusty (my 1959 Ford F100 pickup) others were close to pristine, all were New England based, home of rusted junk . I looked into the multitude of Hummers the D.O.D. is now frantically dumping, most are in VGC and at the outset few cost more than $1,500 and were almost all flipped for $10,000 in spite of being difficult to get road tags for . Supposedly you cannot register ex Military Humvees anywhere in America but quite a few are out driving around right now . |

combine the 1ton axles from a m1008 truck and a 4-5" lift and 1" body lift with 37" tires and maybe a nice gas engine swap and you get this hard core off road rig . there not worthless for a decent clean start for a project . this one was around 95% rust free . was m1009/ex-cop/ex-d.p.w/private owned now .

Re: Abandoned, neglected square body trucks rotting away...
Yabbutt ;
You have to have both the ability to make this rig and the fund$ to operate and maintain it . There's a place in Monrovia, Ca. that has some 10X's, one was made into a four door, I like it but don't want it . |
Re: Abandoned, neglected square body trucks rotting away...
only thing on on the blazer that was not bolt on or drill and bolt was the shock tabs and spring perches on the 1ton rear to move them to the 1/2 and 3/4 spec width . the rear drive shaft was a junk yard ford super duty 1350 u-joint c/v shaft for 80 bucks shipped and 70 to shorten and balance . otherwise this whole rig was bolt together .
its all a hobby be it 4x4 / stock / lowered / lifted / show / daily driver . . . its just pick your flavor . these pics were just 1 form of the hobby / sport . and it could have been done in a std garage but i had a shop with 2 post lift in my back yard so it just made it faster . oh ya ........ back on topic . |
