Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Do you have any pics of the one you started? I'm still trying to figure out what to do with mine.

Aluminum center and fiberglass surround. I always liked the look of an LT1 intake with the ribs so I had it ball milled.

That's pretty cool but beyond my skills.

Re: Yet another GMC build

That was my first time with fiberglass. It's not perfect but you have to start somewhere. I just made a "mold" with styrofoam board and cardboard, then wrapped it with saran wrap and glassed it. Then I peeled all the junk off the bottom when done. Then I used bondo on all the imperfections. I did the filter box the same way. I glassed a cardboard box then cut the filter hole and ripped out the box and saran wrap. I don't think it's beyond you at all! I've seen your metal work and if you were half as good at fiberglass it would be better than mine. My problem is that I get kind of good at everything but rarely REALLY good at anything. It's a curse...

I may have to give it a shot when I get to that part.

Some hand polishing, new tires, and wheel center caps and it looks like a whole truck.

Put on the last two Bilsteins and drove it for 30 minutes over every pothole I could find (many in Oklahoma) and so far no bottoming out. I REALLY need to get those A/C parts though. 100+ degree weather here.

Trying to get the Vintage Air in the truck but I seriously miscalculated how the top vents were going to fit. I couldn't get the duct hoses hooked up because
1. too close to the dash top and
2. right in the middle of the wiper linkage.
I have to move my controls from the bottom to the top but the dash is already painted and cut. Answer: thank goodness for my connections with a great machinist! I had a stainless cover plate made to match my gauge panel and it covers the vent holes perfectly. Now I have to buy another vent that will fit my pod underneath.

good recovery and it looks planned
the irony of a unit named compac, it's a big pig
but you will be happy with the way it cools

Nice save !!
So where are the center vents now?
I have two extra holes in the firewall of my green truck, about 3 inches from the two that hold the evap. to the firewall !!!
I hope you tilted it a bit to the right to empty the condensate out of the case, this time of year there is a bunch !!!

Post 286, first pic...there is a fiberglass box under the dash that was supposed to be for the controls. Now it will be repurposed with one very large (and too expensive) vent. Vintage air is the only one that makes a vent that will fit where I already cut the hole. Not what I wanted but it's easier than making a new box .

not sure what your doing for kick panels
but i stuck one in the pass kick
works well for the passenger

i also stuck one under the dash just out of sight above the drivers feet

Thanks guys. The closer it gets the more impatient I get.

I built the kicks with the vents in the hinge pocket. Just enough room to get a hose in there and pull it up into the dash.

Very nice work on that save! I have also ran to issues like that with some tight dashes and it can be a real pain!

Thanks a bunch. Wish mine was as polished and "finished" as yours. Still trying to work out the minor things so I can move on to fine details. I know my underhood area will NEVER be as nice as yours!

Got some bed bling. Mostly wanted storage space. Don't want to scratch up the bed. (Not all of us can have a trunk in our truck, Ogre.)

Got my center vent in and everything seems to be working. Now I just need help charging the a/c. Have to admit the Vintage Air compac unit blows harder than I expected and it's as quiet as a factory unit. So far pleased with VA quality.
