Re: Project: "American Graffiti" Build Thread

Well Bud,

No updates but heart aches..
It seems my transmission needs to be rebuilt.
So now its who I can trust to rebuild it and rebuild it right or just buy a new one with a warranty.
The transmission came out of a 1970 Chevrolet C-10 or a C-20 Custom Camper Special Long Wheel Base Pickup my dad had at the time.

So checked with Jegs and Summit and it seems Summit is cheaper on shipping.
JEGS Performance Products 60300 - $792.98
http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performan...oductId=750882
http://www.jegs.com/images/photos/50...55-60300_5.jpg
(Short 6" Tail Shaft)
Summit Racing SUM-700300 - $771.90
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-700300/
(Truck Freight: Terminal Pickup)
Summit® transmissions have been remanufactured with all-new clutches, kevlar band, seals, bushings, and thrust washers, plus a brand-new performance separator plate. Other features include a rebuilt front pump, a recalibrated manual/automatic valve body, and high-quality seals and gaskets. You get all these quality upgrades, plus reliable performance that can handle up to 450 hp.

I got a new Summit Racing Trans Pan that will match.
Anyhoot she will be down untill I get the new trans.
I just dread taking the old trans out and installing the new one in.
All I have is jack stands.... and the truck is low:lol:

I know you didn't ask but here is a word of advice...
TH400....

I don't care what anyone says, the TH350 can not match a solid TH400 in any way, shape or form....
Nearly $800 should get you a nice beefed up 400, matching driveshaft and the better 1st gear...
TH400 would be a win win win proposition in every way...
I have a Chevy TH400 outside in the build area that I paid $400 for, came with a 1 year warranty AND has been beefed up to handle anything any small block can throw at it...
So check around bud... seriously...
Just my 2 pennies worth

Re: Project: "Full Metal Yellow Jacket" Build Thread

Yea, I know. You see'em in alot in Big Blocks too.
They are supremely durable and hold up better under alot of torque.
Well if I did go with a TH400 I would have to change the crossmember.
Right now I just don't wanna change anymore stuff on my truck right now.
TH350 will be fine for her. I'll hang on to the old trans because it's a heavy duty TH350 out of a truck. I also need to get a new radiator. The one I have now is ok but it's a matter of time when it's gonna rust trough at the bottom. I had it re-cored years ago. Money is tight right now and I have to watch the green stamps. I am gonna have positive traction on her one day. Got to get the bed done, Cadillac lights frenged in, doors fixed, new wiring, inner fender wells, tilt steering, and a few others before she is ready for paint. I want to make sure everything is done and fully operational before she's painted. Because after she's painted I just want to drive her and that's it.;) No more working on her. Ha ha:lol: Yea, that will never happen.

So now for the rest of the year we will drive dads car to the shows.
Gives me a chance to drive her... teehee. I love driving it when pops lets me.
By the way she gets 5 miles to the gallon tacking 3,000 rpm @ 55mph:lol:

Mine was only advise.
Not sure why you would need to change the cross member???
You move it back a few inches and bolt her in.. and with the trans already out, a slightly shorter driveshaft.
Personally I wouldn't pay 800 cents for a TH350. With big rear tires and the other stresses they just won't live.
I had a 350 behind my 400 pontiac.. lasted 3 runs and broke.. dumped $400 into it and it lasted 9 more runs and broke. TH350's are never an option in any V8 build I do. Maybe a 6 cylinder.
BUT!
It's your rig my friend... build it your way.. :metal:

Think I'm going to go with this paint scheme...;)
Have some air brushing added to her as well.
I may do my own outline of the flames.
If I do I will take pics or videos.
White to yellow to orange to red with some blue and white.
Thinking Glossy Black with Glossy Flames.
Match-Tip flame style is my favorite.
Not that I don't like flat or suede paint. Kinda growing on me.
I not set in stone with this.... Still like my Bright Yellow with flames!
What do you guys think????

Yellow with Flames or Black with Flames?
