Good deal MJ are you going to go through it? Do you know if you scored a posi? What are you going to do with the old Eaton?

I haven't really decided yet if I'll do anything but run it. As far as the posi, I haven't checked that yet either. I'll probably check that next weekend. As far as the Eaton goes, I was just going to scrap it, unless you want it.

Man! Where were you back in April? I would have taken it off your hands. I'm kind of tied up into this one now. Thanks though!

The weather wasn't the best yesterday, so I only got a few items completed. I'm hoping to get the engine and tranny in place today just to see if I measured correctly.

Today's update is a small one....although it was a big job  I got the transmission cleaned up and painted. I really wanted to bolt the splitter up, but unfortunately I have to take a few inches (as per the instructions) off the bearing retainer.

Your welcome. I was around. Just not on the forums. I didn't know they existed until recently.

Thanks MJ, I'll have the ole Eaton outta there by the end of the month. PM me your address and a phone number when you get a chance.

Gotta be psyched mocking up that splitter way cool! :phat:

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Yeah, I'm pretty excited to see it this close to mounting in the frame. I was pretty sad about having to do more work before I could connect the tranny to the splitter :)

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

hi, I was checking out the pics on your rebuild. Could you tell me about how long it took (how many hours) to take everything off the cab and ready it for blasting?

mjensen 10-15-2012 01:52 PM

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

It really didn't take too long at all. I think we had it done in about 4 hrs of total work time. Of course that can greatly fluxuate based upon the work/beer ratio

The nice part is these trucks are fairly simple, so it doesn't take too long at all.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Moving the tranny shifter back X far are you going to run into trouble with the bench seat or are you thinking of going to bucket seats?

mjensen 10-29-2012 11:41 AM

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

That's the next thing I need to check. This is why I decided to move the engine cross member forward two inches, so that the tranny only moved back 5-1/2". I think that I can change the angle of the shifter to clear the existing bench. If not, then buckets it will be

I'm hoping to try and test fit that next weekend.

mjensen 10-29-2012 11:45 AM

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"

Oh..but I am going to have to get creative with the 4WD lever though. I've got some ideas in my brain, but I can't really figure that out until I get the tcase back together and test fit the cab again.

Keep up the good work. That stinks about having to trim the bearing retainer, but it should be a snap for a guy with a lathe. Good luck man!

Thanks! Yeah, I was disappointed but I was actually able to use a guide with a hacksaw to shorten the bearing retainer down. Took my time, and it went straight down :) I know... people are shaking there heads now...hacksaw really?

The only progress to report this weekend is that I moved the frame over to its winter home. My dad was nice enough to let me take it over there so I could continue to work on it over the winter.
