Well....mission(s) accomplished.

Mission 1: Family Cruiser Status: Accomplished

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...psc2fbdf0c.jpg

Mission 2: Drive it up to the Automotion weekend in Wisconsin Dells Status: *Accomplished

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...ps97594df7.jpg

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...psf064d244.jpg

The good: Truck was together for the deadline, made its way up and back under it's own power, and was a mega crowd pleaser.

*The bad: Got a little bit of play with an Alpha 9 GTR, and think I hurt the motor (too big for my britches on a rough tune...think I killed a ring land). A compression test this week should tell the tale.

Also blew a power steering hose off in the hotel parking lot on Sunday morning. Did some MacGyver stuff in the parking lot to drive it home...no power steering or hydroboost for a 350 mile drive...

We were a little giddy...it's not every day you run into a 850-950 hp supercar that wants to dance.

He was cool. We pulled off a couple miles later and he threw me a thumbs up, and yells "Damn! I want one!"

Haha sure you do, pal. But thanks.

Pretty much. Lol.

As of right now, kicking around in the shop I have:

Two LQ4s
LM7 5.3
LS6 5.7
L33 5.3

Never hurts to have spares :)

Do you have a milage range you like to stay within? 50,000 to 100,000 for example.

Re: Project Family Truckster: 2wd Conversion Turbo LSx Blazer Build

Nope, I ain't skeered of pretty much any LS. I've never got one from the junkyard with less than 70k on it, and most of them have been 150k or more. To hell and back.

It figures of course that the first LS engine failure I've had was with the 70k mile 2007 LQ4 that is in the blazer now...

Where did you find your bulkhead connectors? I have been looking all
over for one like that. Thanks

Got them from the Cat dealer. You will also need a deutsch pin crimp tool and a whole tons of pins and sockets. It was f'n expensive all said and done, but super clean.

Caterpillar Plug 9X-0401 $46.39
Caterpillar Receptacle 9X-1343 $42.46
Caterpillar Receptacle 214-4208 $80.68
Caterpillar Plug 160-7689 $34.01

Haha thanks. Although the more I dig into it, the more I think that much of the damage was done early on in the tuning process, before this stunt with the GTR.

Looks really clean. I will probably go back to the mil-spec route, but I will see if my buddy at the cat dealer can hook me up. Thanks

The round mil-spec stuff is nice, but I needed a connector with more pins. I used one 70 pin bulkhead for the engine, and another 40 pin for the transmission and wideband, water injection, etc.

How do you like the handling with that front end? I am also doing a unexpected motor swap this summer.

I like it a lot. Rides nice, but I wish it would have come with a heavier set of springs. I have them maxed out for ride height on the adjusters.

Might go back this winter and put some 500 lb/in springs in to replace the 450s it came with.

What happened to your motor?? F'n hot rods....

Do you have some sort of boost retart setup in your ignition? If so what do you have it set at and what are you going to change on your new motor. Also, how many pounds boost?

Boost timing retard? The answer is "definitely kinda".

The megasquirt has a 3D timing table. Load in kPa on the Y axis and rpm on the X axis with timing values in the cells. I can set it to anything I want it to be. This one isn't mine, but it's an example of how it looks.

http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/1293/spark.jpg

I'm not changing anything on the motor...I've had really good results with turbo stock shortblock LS engines in the past...I just got stoopid with a rough tune. We were still sorting out a couple of random megasquirt issues, and I got greedy and beat on it too hard before I should have. Also, the knock sensors were not enabled yet. :mm:

So to answer your question, I'll have more patience next time.

Boost was right around 14 psi. Gonna back it off to around 10 until I get everything sorted out, then switch over to E85 and go to 16-18 psi. Shooting for 800 rwhp out of this setup.
