You have a good point about the hood and upper grill coming to a point. Matching the grill to the roll pan would be simpler, plus match what is above it.

Those aint the best pics either... The lighting out there is horrible. I was holding the work light up to get the pics. Its a problem I really should do something about...

The thing about the pan is that I didnt even realize they have a full curved one out there and when I seen the 2 piece one I just clicked the Buy Now button like a dummy.

Well... that was a total waste of time and money... Not sure i can fix the blunder I made today. May have to cut that roll pan loose and order another one. Trying to fit those damn Camaro parking lights was a disaster.... I guess i should have done that part before making the grille fit the point in the center. :m5::waah:

Look through Vic's CRLS build and you'll see him using a tool like this....

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...FVFlfgodIdYGmQ

Did you modify the grill?

Yeah I made the grill fit the roll pan if thats what you mean... I actually just bought something similar to that tool that works on the air hammer ... haven't tried it out yet though

Too bad about the light install issue. And it can probably be fixed, it's only metal. Any pic's?

Yeah I have a couple... of what I have ended up with after patching the big hole I had cut in it... I just couldn't get the light areas I had from the Camaro to match the radius of the trucks roll pan... it just wasn't meant to be. Maybe Ill find something else that will work and try again later. I really hate using up my limited time on wasted attempts... At least the roll pan is on and the grille matched it now. Just gotta do the finish work... BUT I'm not exactly happy about the center seam of the pan and may end up cutting it apart and reworking that before I can wrap it up.

And the way I ended up only welding the pan to the grille and then welded sides onto the pan to allow bolts into the fenders will allow removal of fenders if something ever happens... or removal of just the grill and pan as one unit.

On another note, I picked up this handy little attachment for the air hammer the other day when I stopped by Summit Racing for crimping edges of patch panels so that I can stop having to but weld everything... Works really nice and was only like 35 bucks.

I think the rollpan turned out nice and the panel crimper looks good too.

I hope the roll pan is going to work out the way you want. That is a neat tool.

Look at this page on Vic's build....

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...shrink&page=15

Never used one but I think it's what you're looking for.

Please don't abandon the fog lights! I really considered the same thing you're thinking, just doesn't fit my build as well as it would yours! Is there something out there that you could graft in?

I wish i would have known about that crimper attachment as i have the air hammer already, looks like it works ok!

Now that i have had a better chance to read your thread, the shrinker is not a crimper like you have, Youtube has some great tips on shrinkers and stretchers, this guy is pretty good, watch what he does with the shrinker:

That guy seams like he knows what hes doing for sure... I always wanted to learn how to do that stuff and be able to make some neat stuff. Maybe when I grow up lol

Its actually very handy... and with a little practice it works great with very little effort. Wish I had bought it before all the other patching I did.

Aw man... I have GOT to get me some of these metal working tools and start learning... So much I could do with the right tools. That hood might just get redone in the future If I get a hold of these tools... I actually am thinking of doing some of the same scoops as the hood on a smooth tailgate but not as deep and with no openings.... just as a detail to match.... maybe

I've heard using the crimper piece can introduce rust with the 2 layers overlapping, just keep that in mind, and watch out

Re: Blood Sweat and Tears.. 67 Build Thread

I bought an aluminum dash gauge bezel that has two 4 1/4" and two 3 1/4" holes because I liked the look... Why cant I find gauges in those sizes?? I really like the AutoMeter American Muscle sets but the only ones they have are the
3 3/8" and 2 1/16" and 5" No combos in anything smaller than the 5"

Looking for combo gauges for the smaller holes... suggestions please...

Possm, check out Metalmeet for learning metal shaping. I've picked up a few things from the group over the years.

Would the company selling the dash bezel have a recommendation for gauges?

I'll check it out, as for the bezel, it was an ebay thing I doubt they can help but I'll send them a message and see. Thanks

Since my space is limited, I'm doing as much as I can to the bed sides before I pull it apart... Now that the 42 layers of different colors and bondo is all off Im rather surprised to see how good the overall shape is... no rust at all... Imagine that. I think the hardest part is going to be getting the areas around the tail lights worked out. May end up replacing the lower rear of the drivers side since its so deformed...

Too many other things going on to get anything done on this thing right now... Very much considering handing it over to the paint and body police... hate to see it every time I walk out into the garage looking the same as the last time I walked out there....
