Time for a few more updates. Since I had the cab back off I figured id put the motor back in and modify (flatten) the trailing arm crossmember and fit up the trans crossmember. Once i got the trans crossmember in place I notched out a few spots for the exhaust pipes so they won't hang below the frame.

Now that that was done I could move onto my exhaust! I took my cheap Chevelle headers and cut the collectors off and put the nice flowmaster ball flanges on. I also extended them and kicked them out to the frame a little for more trans clearance. They should fit and seal nice now!

Looking so great. I keep revisiting this build thread because I can't get over how awesome this truck is going to be. Keep up the good work and keep us updated!

Looks nice. Do you plan to coat the whole exhaust with something?

This truck is awesome. I like how you're blending the new paint. I used this thread as research when replacing my floor last year, thanks for the detailed write up!

Nope! No plans to coat the exhaust. Just going to see how it holds up to daily driving! Lol

so nice to see that you went big block. seems like not too many of us go that route when doing a frame off like this. Keep up the awesome work. look forward to seeing the rest come together:metal:

Thanks! I figured what the heck! I see lots of LS builds and that seems to be the new norm these days. So I went old school big block! Lol
I just wanted something different that I could make look old and somewhat era correct. I tossed around the LS idea but I've built a few LS cars already and want something different to burn tires off with! :metal:

I'm going through the same dilemma right now. I have a 5.3/4L60e with all the related pieces/parts needed... but I also have a 468/700r4 that I gotta admit would look cool in Walter. I really think you made the right choice!!! :metal:

Fired up ran nice and smooth with 60psi oil press. I kept the valve covers off to see everything work and it looked good! Did a compression test right after and all cyls are within 5 pounds of each other! Im pretty happy with that so my boy and i mocked the motor up to see how it fits with the 73+ mounts.

which mounts are these, 73+, are the small block and big block towers/perches the same?
