Oh, and I love the avatar pic too!!

Hey man, just because she's promiscuous doesn't mean she's a hoe

Ya, I'm going with the scheme on page one/post #1, but with white also below the lower trim. I need to re-install PS and do another render.

Take it all in man! I can't tell you how much I've learned from this site... and still learning. I know I woudn't have done half this stuff without it!

:agree: Had it not been for this place, I probably would have towed mine out back after it got hit. It would probably still be sitting out there too! I learn something new almost every day here.

On the other hand, it can be a bad thing too. My truck isn't just another truck anymore. And Frizz's burb, well........ it turned into a hoe! :haha:

Lookin good Frizz!!

That looks great Frizz! I'll bet most people will never notice it. On one hand it kinda sucks when people don't notice things you have spent a lot of time on, but on the other it tells you that you accomplished your goal of keeping it stock looking. Which in a way is just as rewarding. Great work!

FF. I have been away from the boards for a while, but came back and saw the awesome work you have done. Maybe I can use the final image to convince the wife to get rid of the Trailblazer and make a Tahoe. Might be neat to stuff the guts of the TB into a Tahoe.

You could always run the wheel tubs across to cover the notch, then you could go 335 or bigger in the rear. Might need them to handle the power!! :metal:

Thanks Brent.

Trailblazer interior would probably work really well. I wonder if GM would let you use an On-Star subscription if your transferred the system over...:metal:

I haven't posted much on this thread lately but I haven't stopped working. I built a leaf guard, I'm modifying my 68 fenders, and I spent two days removing undercoating from the 68 hood (what a PITA!).

So my next big milestone is putting the 68 clip on. :D

Here's the 68 hood. I think I'd rather buy a new one than do that again...

Took the braces off and went through it with a wire wheel and cup to be sure ALL that garbage was removed. This way I can chrome them if I want to and bolt em back on with some nice SS hardware. Next step is solvent!

I can't believe how cool this thing is. I love that it is looking like something that GM could've made. I got into the burbs because i saw one I really liked that had been bobbed 10" behind the rear wheels but this is a whole different level of difficulty and style. I'm curious if you went with a one piece drive shaft or have the carrier bearing style still. guessing by the relief in the floor it looks to me to be 1 pc.

I've seen a couple done that way (bobbed) and they do look good in their own way. I've also seen them turned into 104" wheelbase "hardtop Blazers." I lost count on how many 55-59, 60-66, and 67-72 Tahoes and Blazers I built in Photoshop   I finally decided on these dimensions because they worked well in Photoshop and there's no denying the SWB truck look good:metal:

Yes I did go with a one-piece driveshaft. It was the same cost as having my stock two-piece cut and rebalanced, but much stronger (good for 600 hp).

Me too ;) Been pretty busy but I've managed to tackle some little things here and there. I posted some more pics of the inner fender mods in the susp forum you may or may not have seen.
I did some minor stuff like POR-15 the Leaf guard I made for under the cowl and install new door seals. Also made the 3rd door sill plate fit and started working on shortening the lower trim.

...and I did a little rust repair on the 68 clip:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1192828806

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1192828806

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1192828806

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1192828806

Hammer/dolly'd this area to close it up better (common dirt collector):
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1192828806

Then welded it up:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1192828806

And ground the welds a little. POR-15 will be applied later:

That patch looks like it fit much better than the one n2billet & I did for a buddy of mine @ work (he's also a board member now :) ). If I aligned the wheel-opening 'body-lines', it was short @ the grille area; fit it properly @ the grille area & you'd fight the opposite end.

It gave a me fits before n2billet got involved & we decided to align it @ the most visible point (the wheel opening) & try to split & fit @ the opposite end. In the end, you'd have to look for the repair but it was a pain in the a##!

I had the same issue! I ended up splitting the patch "cup" there by grille side and filled it back in with weld. Matching the wheel arch is obviously more important. Mine turned out pretty good where I split it but it's not perfectly vertical there... the bumper will cover that area anyway. ;)

That's exactly why I suggested to my buddy that a bumper would 'work' better than a roll-pan . . .....

I'm very new to body work...which grinding tools do you use to grind your welds down. They look amazing.

thanks

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*

I grind most of the weld with a grinding wheel on a 4.5" angle grinder, then 4.5" flap disc, the 60 grit DA. I'm no pro, that's just what works for me.

"I'm no pro"... Holy crap, there is some amazing fabrication work in this build. I'm not sure how I missed this thread until now. If I ever decide to build another truck I know where to come for information... Mike's build threads.

Awesome job. Keep it up. :metal:

I know I've let this thread get pretty buried lately. Life happens, even to me...

But I stoked the fire today. Finally wrapped those hoops in some rubber. Now I need to get my tubs done so they'll tuck properly!

Specs:
22x9 w/5.5" BS (5" BS would be better but they stopped making them) 305/40/22
20x8.5 w/5.25" BS
255/45/20

Pics...

Current ride height (pre-tubs):
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1195090590

...and sitting on the stock inners (front not rear) This will be about ride height after tubs and exhaust:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1195090590

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1195090590

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1195090590

Still need to grind the front hubs a little to fit the center caps:

Hey Frizzle,

If you're gonna go lower are you gonna raise that gas tank and if so, what are your plans? I'd hate that to be one of the lowest things on my suspension.

Your truck is turning out amazing. I feel like my regular Blazer body is gonna be boring by comparison. lol

So, how do the 305s fit? I know there was some concern of them being too meaty... Looks badass btw :metal:

Frizzle Fry 11-16-2007 10:37 PM

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*

Thanks guys! I was worried about going with such tall sidewalls but I think it was a good choice. I like a little meat on there like Danny ewing's truck had with the 18/20 combo.

The tank: With the 22's I have more ground clearance that I did with the 17's. I'll probably just put a skid plate under it.

305's: They actually fit with stock tubs but do rub a tad on the inside around hard corners. That's a backspacing issue more than tire size though. I'm gonna have to run a 5/16-3/8" spacer in the back (since Coys stopped selling the 5" BS in 22x9) Plus those 13" trailer fenders will help a bit too ;)
