Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
Also with timing control you must have the tach wire connected. And you can not splice or tap the tach wire for the FiTech. It must have its own tach signal. This is what I was told. But if you look at the wiring diagram it does not show this.

Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
I know the FItech will work with any distributer style in Fuel only mode but you can't control timing with an HEI or ready to run style can you? Maybe I'm ready the wiring diagrams wrong. I haven't checked with their tech support.

Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
Ok spoke with the mechanic at FiTech. He said it will not work with a big cap HEI. And you can tap the tach wire.
|
Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
Also the mechanic told me I need a relay for my fuel pump. I told him I am happy he told me that cause the directions did not say anything about that. So another hold up. I am ordering a fuel pump relay kit.

Well I got my an fitting on my fuel pump. God I hope they don't leak.

Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
Wow, you will be driving by this week end!

Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
Thanks for the great info and documentation through this install. Since they have only be shipping since the Spring the experiences you are providing are invaluable. Unless something turns in to a show stopper for you, I think Santa is bringing me one for my fresh 383.

Going back about the relay. It's because I am using a in tank pump. So the orange wire that is on the wiring harness on the FiTech will be my trigger wire that will run to the Aeromotive fuel pump relay. Now if I would have got the FiTech FCC I wouldn't need any of that. But I like making things hard lol. When I was talking with the mechanic at FiTech he asked me what I was doing for fuel. Told him in tank pump cause I thought the FCC was ugly lol. I am happy I got to speak with a guy who has installed these on different vehicles. Hell you will never know unless you ask. And trust me I have no issue calling and asking and *****ing when I have spent $1500. In my other posts about the timing control I was just repeating what a tech office guy told me. But the mechanic set me straight lol. And I am happy he did. Plus guys he has built a few C10's. Lol. Makes me feel better about giving them my money. And they are easy to talk with. |

Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
This is the fuel pump relay kit I bought. And it has the same braided wire loom lol. It will all match up nicely.

Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
I forgot I told the FiTech mechanic sorry I can't remember his name about the drop base and the an fitting he said yeah had the same issue. He said change base or angle them to the middle. Yep figured that out myself lol. Nice guy. I can not wait to get this thing running driving me crazy waitin on parts.

Well I just went ahead and installed the temp sensor in the front of intake. It worked for my temp gauge so figured it would work for the FiTech. Cause as far as I know I am getting the DD gauge for Christmas and will put that in the head. I don't have the wires all tied up and tucked yet doing that last making sure I don't mess up anything.

Also for you who are wanting to use the FiTech for timing control here is the connector that plugs in. It is ran off the back with a connector already installed.

Here are the ac wires. The big one is the factory wire and the small is the ac wire from the FiTech harness. With a zip tie loosely holding them. Remember it is not all buttoned up.

So my plan is to mount the fuel pump relay below my fan relay I have mounted on the side of the battery tray.

Another angle. It should fit under it. Finger crossed!!

Well got my new air cleaner base. And everything clears!!! The inlet and return with 45 fittings plus my 4" filter still fits from what I can tell. I don't have any Plato to test it out. The fitting to the base is close but not touching.

Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
I'm getting excited to have you fire this thing up with the new system and it isn't even my truck. Looking great so far.

Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
Honestly so far the hardest thing was the o2 sensor. Unbolting collectors dropping the exhaust down and squeezing under the truck. Now he is a little tip. So the o2 ideal mounting is 2-4" from collector. So I took my tape measure and used a sharpie and made a mark at 2" and at 4". Well the sharpie is almost the same length as the o2 so I stuck the sharpie on the pipe and tested mounting angles. When I found the angle I wanted between the 2-4" marks I marked it. Worked perfect. Sometimes the sun shines on a dogs ass lol. But I did this while the exhaust was still connected all up so I would know how it would sit all bolted up.

Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
We talked about tach signal. I found this to be interesting. Now has me wondering about tapping the tach signal in the future.

Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
I'm still trying to wrap my head around how it controls timing in a mechanical distributor.
|
Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
It does not. You can't use a big cap HEI and have the FiTech control timing. A 2 wire or a ignition box you can. You have to lock out the dizzy and then you phase the dizzy. That is the only way it will control timing.
|
Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
Click the link I posted a few posts back. It has the instructions and the wiring diagrams on how to wire everything up and what will work with and without timing control.
|
Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
Thanks, I'll check it out. I thought someone posted it would work w/HEI and I guess I missed the follow up.
|
Re: 1976 Square "Simple Green"
Here is another option this will provide a high and low tach signal. So from reading this will give you 2 tach signals. I am trying to prep myself for a future upgrade and if some bs happens when tapping the tach wire.
