Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
I just bought another 64 short bed and planning on putting on power brakes. Captainfab, I know you have probably answered this question many times before, but I couldn't find the answer on here. You say a booster for a 1970 Impala and a mc for a 1970 Buick station wagon will work to convert to drum power brakes. Will the mc for the 1970 Impala work since it is a match for the booster? I think that mc is much cheaper than the Buick. I saw on O'reilly's website that a booster/master cyl combo was $106 for the 1970 Chevy.Thanks.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
There are many, many different brake boosters that will work with my booster brackets. The B body (Impala, Caprice, etc.) boosters are one of those. If you plan to one day convert to front disc brakes, I would use a booster with the short intermediate pushrod and the '70 Buick Estate wagon master or one like it, designed for drum/drum brakes. I do not know if the '70 Impala master cylinder is for drums/drums or if it has just a dimple in the back of the piston for the short intermediate pushrod.
If you plan to keep your drum brakes all around, then the '67-'70 truck booster and master combination would be my recommendation. You do not have to use the exact master cylinder that came on a given booster. You just need to use the same style that the booster is designed for. Specifically the short or long intermediate pushrod. Quote:

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Thanks for the reply. I just thought that since the booster and mc were a matched set for the Impala that it would work no matter what the rod type was. In the pictures of a booster for the impala, it looks like the rod protrudes out past the surface of the booster which would make the matching mc have more than a dimple. That's why I wondered how the Buick mc would work with the Impala booster. Unless the picture everyone has of that booster is not the actual booster.I understand what you are saying about converting to disc in the future. I don't plan on it. I have found that adding a booster to drum brakes is all I need. I am planning on a power steering upgrade also. When I am ready I will get the brake and steering adapter from you. Thanks for your help.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
If the '70 Impala has the option of drum/drum brakes, then that booster and master combo will work fine for your application.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
quick question, what brake pushrod do you use? I have a manial brake setup for a 71?
thanks phillip |
Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
The easiest is to trim both your original pushrod and the booster pushrod to the correct length and either weld them together or join them by threading and using a coupling nut or a sleeve and pin method.

Collected my booster bracketry, hydro clutch parts and steering box brackets from the parcel depot in Saturday - not even getting hammered on customs could Diminish the stupid grin on my face when I opened the box. Many thanks John, now I have some fun stuff to do over the winter :)

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
Captain, on your burb that you put the 75 impala brake setup on. Would that work on my 65? I was about to order the combo and just wanted to make sure they were the same as yours. I really like the looks of yours on there.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
The firewalls are the same from '63-'66 on the Chevy's and '64-'66 on the GMC's. So yes my '63-'66 booster bracket shown in this for sale thread will work on your '65.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
I already have your bracket. I was meaning the booster and master cylinder. Sorry, it was a long day yesterday. I kinda left that part out of the question.

Re: Power Brake Booster Adapter Bracket
I have no idea if a '75 Impala booster and master will work on your truck. What braking system does your truck have?
On my Suburban the booster is for an Impala but the master cylinder is for a '67-'70 truck. That is because my Suburban still has drums front and rear. Quote:
