We're good, thanks Luther. We watched the beginning of Sunday's tornado and the end of Monday's from our house...we're very fortunate to have missed both.

It is time to get back on the 58 though. :metal: My boy and I were talking about needing to make some progress so he pulled it out of storage and got busy on it! Few pics from earlier tonight...

Hey Luther! How ya been? We're excited to be back on the 58, been sitting too long. We've got a bit of trimming/massaging to drop the cab down to the chassis...hope to get that done over this next weekend (they're forecasting rain all weekend...perfect for shop time :metal:)

Been doing good! What are y'all thinking for body mount design? Are you going to include rubber mounts? I know on my truck I didn't add any rubber body mounts since that was not the original setup. That Cummins engine in my truck makes sure I have alot of rattles and squeaks.I kinda regret not adding them now.

Alright, this is pretty close to where the body is going to sit...decent clearance around everything! We'll definitely be setting it up with body mount bushings...probably polyurethane, but maybe just rubber cut to size (the front mounts are close to the frame horns).

Had to fix the inner rear passenger body mount brace and floor under the tank before we could jump into body mounts. Cut the old brace and floor rust out (the body channel underneath was good), fit a new piece and welded it in.

Spent way too much time making a new bottom half for the brace :uhmk:. At least it looks kinda like stock, oh well. Welded it in and then took a bit of a different path for the rear body mounts...used a piece of 3" channel to tie the body mounts together horizontally underneath the cab using urethane jeep bushing on either side. A simple down tube above each frame rail will get welded in (with inner frame gussets) once we get it positioned correctly.

Got the cab positioned and welded in the rear mount along with frame gussets. Also whittled a couple pieces of the 3" channel down to fit across the top of the frame for the front body mounts/rad support, used the same poly urethane bushings there too...only one between body and mount though...the driver side mount just barely clears the steering gear box.

Worked on the front bumper tonight. The stock bumper was bent, gouged, and twisted, but a bit of time with a BFH and the press had it straight enough to use. We decided to flip it upside down :uhmk: and after filling and smoothing the stock mounting holes, a couple simple plates welded on the inside allowed it to bolt right up to the front frame horns. We took it down to bare metal in preparation for some type of push bar and to plate the gap left on the top edge. Stick with us...I think it will come out alright ;)

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

I did almost the exact same thing with my front bumper.
They fit the trucks lines better upside down.
Kim
