Honestly it tore me up! I went to the Zac Brown Band concert and walked a bunch Friday, walked 6 miles in 100 degree weather Saturday, and walked another 4 miles in 90 degree weather on Sunday.

Anyway, got my bed (almost) together:

Messed up and didnt order enough steel....got enough to start and mount the bed. I'll figure out the rest later.

Got some more work done. Cut, fit, beveled, cleaned:

Not that fun trying to tig in tight places:

All the long crossmembers are welded in. Now I need to figure out the center a bit. Playing with ideas for the tube layout (they will all be on the same level when I actually do it).

All kinds of stuff happened today. Worked on the floor, ran out of gas, ran out of steel, got involved in a (medium) speed pursuit...
Got a bunch of the tubes fitted and partly welded in. Ordered more steel. Any ideas for what to do in the middle?

So as I am working on my truck I hear a loud noise coming from around the corner. A truck slides around the corner with flat tires. It hits a parked van and keeps going. I grab my keys and start chasing. A couple of cars are chasing behind me. The guy wrecks the truck and me and another guy keep chasing (in our cars) as he runs by foot. He threw something and smashed the other guy's windshield. That guy pulled over and gave up. I chased him threw a few more neighborhoods before he steals a bike and manages to loose me around a corner.

I regret not trying to tackle him. After taking the report the officer asked why I didn't tackle him and I said I wish I did. He told me I did the right thing but he thinks I could have taken him (I'm pretty big and athletic). He is a pic of the truck after he lost a tire and slammed head on into a tree.

Thanks! It was a nice chevy truck, still running for another half hour while they were securing the scene. I hope some random stranger would do the same if someone stole my truck!

Got a bit more work done to the frame I will use. Ended up chaining it to the ceiling because I didnt want to try to tig upside down and I didnt have anyone to hold it.

Obligatory weld shot, half while standing, half while knelling over the bed while trying to work the peddle.

Ugh. Irritating night last night...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...615_224510.jpg
So I got the frame all welded up. Seems to have shrunk about 1/4'' in length...Just enough for the bolts to not line up completely. Got a handful of bolts in and one went in a bit crooked and the nutsert started spinning. Not sure if I trust them to not come loose. Now I need to cut it off and grind it out.

I am going to notch the bolt holes in the frame so I have some lateral movement to adjust it back and forth. I am trying to think of some different ways to mount it to the bedsides though. I want something a bit more robust. Any thoughts?

Re: Used Parts Build

This is why I locktite them...It buys you a second chance to chase the hole and not have it spin. I would give it a second chance...its a clean way to fasten sheet metal but alignment is critical
Good luck

Been too hot around here to get much done. Did a bit more work to my bed:

Went back to my brothers to do some more work to his firewall. The neighbors were welding too...

Brother snapped a pic of me welding

Almost time for some filler. Spent some time with a hammer and dolly to work out the panel. The previous owner made some space above the trans tunnel with a ball peen hammer... Not sure if am going to work that all out. I need to pull the heat and ac ducting to get to it. Maybe some other time...

Didn't get a lot done on my own stuff this weekend. Did my brother's firewall, my buddy's shocks and struts, my dog really didn't like the fireworks either.

I welded some nuts to some .125'' steel. Debating welding them to the bedsides vs just trying to tack the nutserts and see if they hold.

Got all 4 ends done. The ends will be capped. Did a bunch of welding but stopped taking pics.

I'm in contract for a house. I need to get this thing as a roller in the next 30 days or so (if everything goes as planned).

Not yet. Don't jinx me! haha
I probably wont have any money for it! I will likely start on my brother's Nova to keep me busy or maybe start on the bodywork since that isn't as expensive (and will take forever....).

Finished welding the frame together. Still need to patch the holes from the first nutsert attempt. Got sick of working the frame so I decided to shave my stake pockets just to do something different for a bit.

Tried to fusion weld when I could. I knew I was going to use a bit of filler and I didn't want to grind a bunch. A quick swipe of filler and we are good to go.
