I got mine mocked up last night with the eldorado calipers. My question is does this look correct? The lever seems to be very close to the bracket because of that nub that limits how far back it can go.

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Zach, is that the same caliper you posted a pic of in post #455 above? If so, my apologies. That nub will need to be cut off or ground down to clear the lever. I guess I wasn't looking at that previous pic correctly.

Yes it is the same caliper is posted in post #455. Once I got all of the hardware on I had a feeling it would need cut off but I wanted to double check with you first. It's not a big deal, I'm just excited to finish this project.

By the way, excellent job on the brackets, they fit great!

Ok I've gotta run these rotors and calipers cause I've got 5 4 3/4 axles. Will these brackets work. I don't like the wilwoodo kit because they make me buy the parking brake kit. Trying to save a few bucks!

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

The Astro/Safari rotors have the 5 x 5" wheel stud pattern. That is why they are used for this C10 application. If you must have a rotor for a 5 x 4.75" wheel stud pattern, you will have to redrill the Astro/Safari rotors. The other option is that I have been working on a set of rear disc brackets for trucks with the 5 x 4.75" wheel stud pattern. With those you have the option of a standard front caliper or an e-brake caliper. I just do not have a for sale thread for them yet. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Alright all this brake talk has me lost. What wilwood kit works with this kit..I'm tryin to figure out a price for everything. Is there a website for this or no

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

If you want to run the Wilwood dual piston D52 calipers you simply need the Calipers with the 1.25" diameter pistons for the 1.28" thick rotors in your choice of color.

Here is Wilwood's website.

So with your bracket I can run that setup on the rear. Is the front rotor the same thickness? Will the d52 caliper with 1.25 diameter pistons bolt up to the front as well with no problem? Or is the rotor different then 1.28 or bolt pattern different?

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Yes, my D52 brackets are designed to accept the Wilwood dual piston calipers.....just as shown in the pics.

Your front rotors could be 1" thick or 1.25" thick. I do not know what you have. On the front you will want to run the Wilwood dual piston D52 calipers with the 2" diameter pistons.

Hey Captain; I talked to you awhile ago about me swappin a 66-12 bolt to my 94 GMC !!! You said it would work no problem and I agreed but I decided to change the 12 bolt a little !! I might be shortening the 12 rear diff a couple of inches and adding the Torino ends to it too !! Will I still be able to use your brackets !!! Thanks

No. None of my rear disc brackets will bolt up to a Torino housing end. They are all designed to bolt up to the Impala/Truck backing plate bolt pattern.

If you are shortening the housing, why not use these ends so you can use the D52 rear disc brackets instead of Ford brakes of some sort?

http://www.moserengineering.com/othe...lip-axles.html

I have the base plates already machined to act as the bearing retainer with these housing ends.

When you order your axles you will need to be sure to order them with the correct brake offset.

Thanks Captain; Not sure that I am going to cut any off( but I want too)so I guess I will have to check with some other people and see what I can do !! I really do love your setup though and who knows what will happen as I have to do some motor work first and get that out of the way !!! It now looks like I have some options so that is great !! Will let you know when I do it and keep up the great work too !! Thanks for all your efforts !!!!!!

I received my brackets today and they look great. Also I told John I needed these brackets as soon as possible because I had my truck on stands waiting to finish the install and he went out of his way to get the to me asap.

Thanks again John I really appreciate the great service and product.

Bob. The brackets I made for you do not utilize D52 calipers. They use D154 calipers which are similar but smaller. Did your calipers come with the levers, cable brackets and springs? The cable housing attaches to the cable bracket with a clip and the cable itself goes up thru thru spring and connects to the notch in the lever.

Won't these brakes cause pad knockback on the 12-bolt?

What do you mean by "pad knockback"?

This is when the rotor deflects slightly, pushing the pad and piston in with it -- the result is less braking power until the brakes are actuated again. This site does a good job explaining but seems to be missing illustrations:
http://www.stoptech.com/technical-su.../pad-knockback

On full-floating rears this isn't an issue, but with our 12 bolts there's some axle endplay that causes pad knockback. Floating calipers get around this with the ability to move with the hub. Fixed calipers like these do not. An alternative solution although not 100% effective is to use c-clip eliminators which hold the axle in place to a much greater degree.

So I guess the answer is that these calipers are ok if you are running c-clip eliminators.
