They have a 30 day rent back. So I wont be moving in for a month. Which also means I need to get my truck a roller in 30 days.

Congrats on the house.

remind me...you cut down a long bed right? Are you not cutting the 6" off of the back of the bed?

Thanks guys. I cut down a long bed but took all 20 inches from the front and left the rear long.

SWEET!

Reinforce the frame (the arms want to splay)

Also make a wheel for it, instead of a crank. I bent 1" 16ga tubing around an S10 rim, and made spokes out of 3/4". Steering wheels work well too.

Got a skateboard wheel? I made a tipping wheel with a Princess Auto (Harbor Freight) sprocket with the teeth ground off.

started bracing it. Need to get a steering wheel still. Good idea for the tipping wheel. Do you know anyone who makes extra dies for it?

Filled a bunch of holes on my tailgate:

Got my bed mounts done:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...806_191653.jpg
Bed is all bolted on and together. Made some shims to get it to the proper height. Didn't get any pics though. Then this happened:

Grinding some metal and had a bit get behind my safety glasses. By the way they use a bur to remove the rust ring that forms where the metal was.

Re: Used Parts Build

Been trying to get the truck together enough to tow it to my new place.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...828_112515.jpg
And I had to puppy sit this guy again
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...825_192917.jpg
Anyway, on to the truck stuff. Got my steering all together.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...821_140501.jpg
I went to put a set of wheels on that I got as take offs from the Cannonball C10 but they were too wide and the backspacing wouldn't let me even get the wheel on the lugs. I pulled a wheel off my 66 just to give me an idea of what wheels I can run. I am probably going to get some inexpensive steel ones just to get me rolling.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...826_165036.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...826_165046.jpg
These wheels are 205/60/15 so they are only 26''. I am probably going to run a 235/65/17 to give me a 30'' tire (which I should lay out on).

Congrats on the new place!

I have been to the eye doctor to many times for my own good to get metal and rust out of my eye. Its not real fun, but the tools are cool!

I had a co-worker once that had previously worked as a welder, he said he got stuff in his eyes pretty often. He said they'd put a Q-tip gently against the eye next to the metal and twist it slowly, the fuzz would grab the metal and pull it out. It's no substitute for professional medical treatment, but might help in a pinch. Congrats on the house.

Re: Used Parts Build

I had my right eye removed. Now I am 50% less likely to get metal in my eye. :)
Because of that, I wear glasses with the foam around them to make a good seal and also use a shield whenever possible. When you only have one left you need to take care of it.

Re: Used Parts Build

I think Eastwood sells fancy dies for the same machine. The dies yours and mine come with are really just for rolling beads. Eastwood has fancier.

I have a lathe, so I tend to make my own :)

Thanks! Not fun. I hope I never have to do it again.

That's actually what they did (after they numbed it). They had to use a bur to remove the rust that formed on my eye though.

I bought a full shield helmet for grinding and cut off wheels now. I prefer glasses but think I will use the helmet for this stuff.

Thanks. I want to start on my 66 but don't have the space to work on two at the same time. I have a couple ideas for the 66 but don't really have any plans for it yet. I really want to sit down and plan it out so I don't end up redoing a bunch of crap like I did on this one.

And she is holding her own weight!
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...910_173114.jpg
Need to cut my fenders and bed to air down completely but she rolls! We kinda... The back driver wheel seems to be dragging on something. Not sure if it is the caliper or something else but its good enough to trailer it over to my new place.
