Nice work ! Looks great !

It's a shame to hide all the chassis work with the body.

What, no splash panels to cover the bumper brackets ? Or aren't you done yet.

Thanks, the truck is at the interior shop right now. When they are finished we will install the splash pan and tailgate.

Got any build pictures of the 52 truck Dewayne?

Re: Nsane 52' Chevy Truck!

I'm building a 49 C3100 and this really helped me. I have never done any body work or painting - but I'm going to now and can't wait! I have already replaced both sides of the rear inside and outside corners and even though it took me a couple of days, I think I really did a good job. I have restored a 68 GTO but this is a lot more fun because it isn't a numbers matching build and I'm able to make my own parts! Anyway - this thread was AWESOME!

Throw some pictures up Mark! I know I'd like to see them. GTO too.

Mark3100, Where are you putting the battery? NSane, got any updates?

Mark3100 04-10-2014 09:32 PM

Re: Nsane 52' Chevy Truck!

I kept it on the passenger frame rail. I made a battery holder that moves up and down and will lock in the up position. This makes getting to the battery real easy. In the unlocked position it will move down about 10" which is enough to get the battery in and out. I'll take a picture tomorrow and post.

Re: Nsane 52' Chevy Truck!

Thanks Mark. I'd really like to see that battery holder setup. I'm about to install the passenger side floor and would be a lot easier to fill in the battery hole before the floor pan is welded in.

Re: Nsane 52' Chevy Truck!

Here is the battery box I made.

http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/...l/IMG_1430.jpg

The bottom bolts are for locking the box in the up position. To lower the box you remove the bottom bolts and loosen they top bolts (nuts are welded in) then lift it slightly to get it over the lip and it comes down.

Re: Nsane 52' Chevy Truck!

Thanks - that is what I really like about this pickup build - I get to use whatever I want and make my own parts (my GTO is numbers matching so I was limited). So far I have used a Chevy 350 (that I modified), 78 TA posi rear end (that I rebuilt), TH700 (that I rebuilt), Mustang II R&P steering, doing all my own bodywork, my own painting, etc.... I'm learning a lot and having a GREAT time doing it. I've looked at most of the builds on this site and always get pumped up - there are some talented people out there!

Re: Nsane 52' Chevy Truck!

It really is a blast when you can do what you want and incorporating some of the ideas from the awesome builds here. I like the fact that it's not a daily driver. You can throw the hammer away and have a beer when you get sick of it or have some buddies stop in for some beers and see what you have got done. I hate the pressure of having to fix one of my vehicles cause we need it the next morning. Only have hockey during the week with the boys so that free's up the weekend for the truck. Bring on the zip disks and welding wire!

Where have you been Dewayne! Need some updates.........

Re: Nsane 52' Chevy Truck!

True, I'm glad I'm able to take my time and not be rushed - makes for a longer build but I don't really care. I want to fit the steering column so I can patch the small arch in the dash (for the shifter rod) and was wondering what length steering column to use. Also, I like the looks of flaming river but not the price. What did you guys use?
