Fits your truck design very well. Kim |

Got a few things in today to play with... |

Not much to add, but keep chipping away. We had an old 1350 CV shaft that we were hopeful would fall into place for the front...turns out it was just a couple inches too short. We had it re-tubed, swapped out yokes at the transfer case and axle, and front drive shaft is in!

Thanks again DW!!
Made a backing plate for the pedal assembly...we will tie that back into the dash and column mount for reinforcement. We hung the pedals where they seemed to feel the best and zip tied the column about where it's going to end up at...will try to get the upper/lower column mounts built out over the next few evenings. |

Those are nice looking pedals.

Got the upper/lower column mounts done...relationship between pedals/steering wheel/seat is near perfect for what we like. :metal: |

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Sorry if this is an ignorant question, but are two of those reservoirs for the brakes. If so, is one for the front and the other for the back?
Looking good on the project . This is one of my favorite builds on the forum. Chad |
Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks Chad, and yes, one master each for front and back. We set them up with different bores, 1" for front and 7/8" for back, which when used in conjunction with the built in bias bar allows for more front/rear bias control than even a proportioning valve.

Stripped the driver door down and rebuilt both hinges (after a bit of torching and hammering). We had to cut most of the very bottom of the door out, but the rest looked pretty good. We test fit the doors quickly to check fit...not perfect, but pretty close and no droop or looseness. We will patch the bottom next and prep for paint.

Love the running boards, that's cool. How thick is the steel your using?

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks Rod, using 10ga. for a number of different things...mainly because I picked up a couple strips at the salvage yard a few weeks ago ;)

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Just finished reading the whole thread! I really admire your Fab skills and like the use of the dimple dies on the various mounts and brackets. IMO that really adds to the level of craftsmanship on a build. I also like the way you built the front grill guard/push bar to the bumper. I have to admit though that I have a bit of bias for the 58-59 Task Force trucks. Keep up the excellent progress, I'm loving it.

Thank you Kim!
We've been fooling with the bed, moving it back and forth and up and down a bit...we think we got it pretty much where we want and have a game plan on how to incorporate the tilt capability to the new chassis. So far, we have built out the rear hinge/pivot on the frame by sliding a 3/8" x 4" strip down the inside of the rear frame rail about 18". Popped the rivets from the rear spring hangers and bolted/welded the strip in place. Hole-sawed a 1 3/4" hole through the frame/strip on each side and boxed in/welded a section of tube from side to side. A 1 1/2" dia. solid rod will slide through this, sticking out each side about 3" that will support bushings welded/gusseted up to the frame of the bed...hope to have the bed part done tomorrow night. |

Thanks rambler, glad ya checked back in!
Still working on mounting the bed...ran out of steel, gotta make a run tomorrow. We did get the drag link welded up and in...crossover to a high steer arm on the pass side. Also ran the column to box linkage, it slid right under the headers just with joints at each end (had to massage the yoke at the column for a bit more angle). |
