The exhaust and engine noises were too loud when I'd get out to investigate. I finally discovered that the noise would go away if I applied a little pressure to my shift lever. I applied a little grease to the three contact points between the linkage, transmission and frame mount, and the noise is gone. Now I need to track down the creaking noise that's coming from rear wall of the cab. I sprayed lubricant in a bunch of the seams, but that didn't do it. I think I'll need to take passenger seat out and have my wife drive me around while I crouch on the floor to locate the source of the noise.

I chased a creaky squeak behind the cab in my truck for a while. Thought it was the bed and I practically took the bed off trying to figure it out. Turned out it was the driver's side trailing arm bushing squeaking. Dosed it down with silicone spray a couple times and it went away.

What tranny do you have, Pat?

It's a 4L60 (700R4) out of a 1993 Caprice at Pick-N-Pull. I rebuilt it with the help of an instructional video I purchased from Monster Transmissions. Used a TCI kit. Replaced some of the larger hard parts that are known to be problematic with heavy-duty versions.

Got the first front end alignment on the 68 today. It’s coming together. Steering wheel nice and straight.

Interesting! I will take a look at that.

got the shorter hoses clocked correctly, and their ends ground down to fit in the brackets. I've been 3h away from bleeding my brakes since Thanksgiving.
THIS TIME FOR SURE!!!!

I've heard 700-R4s are tricky. Even more so, a computerized successor in an analog truck.
I have thought about a stoutly-rebuilt TH700-R4 to replace the TH350 in White Fang, my '67 K/10 Suburban, but that's a long way off.
I know you're about one wrench-thru-the-garage-drywall-in-frustration from re-rigging for Manual Transmission. And you're contemplating the T-5 five-speed. I'm not a fan of that unit. A friend had one and we replaced it 3 times one year. In my opinion it's too wimpy in a Truck.

For my money, I'd get a New Process A833 5-speed [or 4+OD]. They were more of a MOPAR tranny, but some mid-'80s Squarebody light duty pickups were optioned with them. The Holy Grail of transmission hunts now.

It was a fair amount of work to get the torque converter lockup to work to my liking. I tried various combinations of vacuum switches and time-delay relays, but ended up building an Arduino-based electronic controller for it based on speed and manifold vacuum level. It is documented in this thread:

Took my truck for a wheel alignment today as everything was replaced in the front end. First drive of any distance , just a couple miles to the alignment shop, since te refurbish and what a difference in the way truck drives. Pic is the alignment specs which the tech started going over with me and I told him I'm clueless as to what he's talking about although he said everything was great as far as alignment and suspension went. I'm sure there are folks on here that can relate to the alignment specs.

Not today - but visiting a chassis shop tomorrow morning to begin plans on joining those who have lowered their trucks. Going to see what the options are, and to probably include a disc brake upgrade up front.

struggled unsuccessfully to get the brake lines clamped to the xmember.
Going to punt on this, get the lines bled and leak tested, then drive the ***** up on ramps to secure those lines with some damned room to work

Changed the rear end fluid. Checked axles seals and all dry so the 12 bolt is good to go.

if you don't have the SPID or buildsheet under the seat, then you can still create one based on what your truck's details and options are, along with the VIN. It will be probably really close, or at minimum what you want it to show. If you don't already know, you might get fully educated on what all the options were available. It'll be more of a crap shoot on a few items like tires, gearing, etc. Either way, it's easy to determine what the manufacture list prices were on every item.

Took driver side door apart and installed new glass and track, lubed up channels and coated bottom inside of door with POR15. Also added correct spacers to window crank and door handle. Window and door operate as they should now.

I found the squeak that was coming from the back of my cab. I tightened the rear cab mounts, and the noise is gone.
