Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

How's your back? I'm assuming lower back. I have issues with mine. Herniated discs, L4, and 5. I started going to the gym on a recommendation from a guy I was working with. I started working on my core a little bit and also strengthening my posterior chain. Best thing I could have done. I know I'll never be out of the woods completely, I can still aggravate things, but not nearly as bad as before, and I recover a hell of a lot more quickly. I'm only 43 and hopefully I have quite a few years ahead of me, so feeling bad with my lower back isn't an option I want to live with everyday. Keep up the good work on your project.

Hope the new painter works out for ya! And per the back, don't get so pumped mentally with your progress that ya get over zealous and re strain it, stay reserved.

just read through your build looking very good and like the truck-burb combo..wished they would have made trucks like that from factory, it's seems like they build all the KOOL stuff over seas....course I guess if they built them as 3 drs or 4drs over here we'd be trying to turn them into 2 dr trucks...just to see how KOOL they'd be...I will be watching...keep up the good work....

For some reason I'm not getting emails when somebody replies to my build thread. I have had to reset my pass word several times in the last 2 weeks.
My back pain has subsided and part of it is from loosing 125 lbs.
still waiting on getting my truck painted. new date is end of February start date.

Welcome back. Yeah, it took a good 90 days before my back even began to feel normal. L4, L5 discectomy. In time... I definitely think about lifting now before I attempt and get help with the big stuff. Just not worth it.

Looking forward to seeing some paint in 2017. Good luck!

Chris

Nice to see you back and congrats on loosing all that weight!

Wow! Congrats on the weight loss, I put on about 20 lbs from sitting on my butt after surgery, now I could stand to loose about 50!

I joined 20 lighter.com diet. it is mostly eating 3 to 4 ounces of meat twice a day and lots fruits and veggies. Drinking 30 ounces of water 3 times or more a day.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

I don't know if I could drink much more than 30oz a day without renting space in a bathroom If I could shut off my sweet tooth tho I'd be ahead of the game!

Hey David,

I thought we posted about a lower radiator hose.
I found this this number Gates 20931. 16$ at O'reillys. I know it will fit the water pump but not sure on the radiator.
I will be picking one up and checking fitment as I cant find the information of the one I used on my sons truck
keep you posted

I will check it out this week end. I found on upper hose but I have to cut out a section to make it fit the way I want.

I had to that also. The stock LS truck hose is way long and flimsy. I added a Stainless Steal pipe that went across the radiator and just used the curved ends of the hose.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

The upper hose in the picture looks like the one I found. with out cutting it it runs over the top of the radiator. My plan is to cut out the part over the radiator and run it like you have

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

OK found some notes that show I bought Gates 22437
it comes with a black plastic hose cover which the yellow truck above has.... may need to get both and see what fits the best.

Hello First c10
I picked up Gates 20931 lower hose and it worked good just had to cut to fit.
The upper hose is 23184 and I had to cut it up to work. just need to get some 1-3/8" SS tubing to clamp it up.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

Looks good. Your motor looks like it sent back farther than mine but I am sure it will fit. I'm going to order mine as I had to work all weekend.

I found 1-1/4" stainless steel tubing at Summit Racing to finish up my upper hose. should have it by Wednesday.

I met Anthony painter #3. his pricing is in line with painter #2. he said I can bring my truck in 3 to 5 weeks. I gave him deposit to lock in getting it started. He has 10 cars and truck in his shop 3 leaving with in 1 to 2 weeks. 2 are touch up paint work. 1 some truck part he just painted Wednesday. He said 4 to 6 months to complete my truck.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

The stainless steel radiator tube I bough was too small in dia. I though I was buying 1-1/4" and it measured 1-3/16". I need 1-3/8" and having hard time finding one. I might have to us one of my friend card and have one bent to fit.

Finally found stainless steel upper radiator tube that fit the rubber hose. the 1-1/4" measured 1-3/16" picked up 1-3/8" with 90 degree bend and had 3" cut off one end and orbital welded on. Thanks to Tim for welding it for me.

I delivered my sheet metal to Anthony early this morning. I stopped to add 2 straps as the cab was moving around on the trailer all parts made it safe 1 hour 40 minute drive.

Hay Dieselwrencher
I'm not ripping apart my Cummins to install it in my 71. I did try to find a wrecked Duramax but it was more than I was able to spend. some day I might be able to.

Dieselwrencher 05-11-2017 05:43 PM

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

I hear ya there. Those wrecked Duramaxes are bringing too much money for me too. I don't blaim you for not ripping a high dollar dodge apart.
