In the last 10 days I dropped a 454/turbo 400 in place and bolted it up. New cab mount bushing along with core supports. Hung the doors, front fenders, hood back in place and loaded all the little bits up in the back of bed getting ready to move in the next month.
Kinda forgot how good the old girl looks pre-build. Wish the whole truck looked like the bed. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I took pics of the completed heater box but those didn't download to the computer for some reason.
I hope to put the theater box on the truck tomorrow...weather is a bit stormy today. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Painted my new-to-me 402.
As received http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...2012.17.35.jpg prepped (degreased, sanded, degreased some more) and primed (2 coats) http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...2017.41.36.jpg 3 coats of orange http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...2018.52.36.jpg After 2 coats of clear and put back together. Will look even better with the orange valve covers back on. Undecided on painting the intake orange or not. Can decide later. http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...2021.21.19.jpg Cleaned up the extra set of rallys, got 'em all for $200CAD/$150USD. To mount the drag radials on for track visits. http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...2020.51.15.jpg http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/...2021.37.06.jpg |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Looked at a parts truck. 72 Super with every option. The engine sounds great, it has many nice parts, and the references I'm looking for (e.g., trim hole locations). It's mostly stock and the SPID correct. Factory A/C still installed (doesn't work), but bonus. The cab is toast in my novice opinion. Rust has eaten through the top gutter, front corners and likely the rear corners too. Some front fender rust too, eaten through. I didn't even take it for a spin, but I've since left a message with the seller he has a deal if the tranny, suspension, rear-end and steering check out. It's not expensive.
So anyway, that's what I did "for" my truck anyway. Peter to pay paul on location. Hope I get it. |

Yesterday after I finished a graveyard shift, I went home and put in new spark plugs, then ended the evening cleaning it all up for a car show on Saturday. The best part was the last spark plug falling down between the start solenoid and the oil pan...

I didn't actually do this myself, but I paid for it. I stopped the gear oil leak coming out of the transfer case. The previous owner used RTV to seal it and it didn't hold. I have no experience rebuilding transfer cases and thought it prudent to have it done by a professional.
...and they had the missing part so now my speedo works!!!! :metal: |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Took it to the tire shop to get a couple of tires mounted on her. Drove there with a center cap loosely bolted on, lost it on the way there. ;)
Also wired my tachometer lights to the cluster lights. Little by little. |

Started some sanding, found an empty lot. Love the west coast trucks, found all metal . Just sanded down chips. Boy I miss my house and garage. Painted cluster panel. Removed shim from starter, now starts correctly. Painted and installed corner core support brackets.
