Good info airstream, thanks. There’s some good information out there on these brakes, just need to dig, but it sounds like the performance of these brakes is based purely on the setup of the park brake. Another thing I read is to not touch the hydraulic side of things until the P brake is setup properly. And for the rattle clips, apparently they’re a wire style clip. Raybestos H5459 or ACdelco

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

First off, great work Captain! I’ve had my 85 C-10 apart for about 6 months trying to find the DIY parts to put disc brakes on the rear. I tried the S-10 4x4 backing plates that MANY people say will fit.....but they don’t. I was gonna go the Impala rotor and custom bracket route but the rotor doesn’t fit completely down onto the axles due to the tiny lip. I wanted something that I could put together that worked without having to machine any parts. My buddy ordered some brackets for his 68 from you for the Impala rotor setup and is gonna have his axles machined. The quality and fit of your brackets sold me.
I’m gonna go the Astro route however because the rotors actually fit properly. I’ll be ordering those brackets soon.
My question today is about the master, is it a must to change it from stock to disc/disc? Also, has anyone used the 83+ year corvette mc? Does it fit without mods? I’m new to this forum stuff so if this is the wrong place for that question I apologize. Anyway, thanks guys.

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Even though some have run a disc/drum master with 4 wheel discs I always recommend upgrading to a disc/disc master and prop valve. Or at least an adjustable valve in the rear line. I do not have any experience with the '83 Corvette master, but it should bolt up and work fine as long as the bore in the back of the piston is the same as your original master.

Know of parking brake cable I can use for rear d154 wilwood brake kit. I had rear drums and removed them with the short cable for rear half. These wilwood brakes require uses of non factory clevis. Have a lwb leaf.

Sorry I have no idea. I have never installed anything like that. You might ask that question in either the '60-'66 forum or the suspension forum.

i have a question.im doing a frame off on a 79 c-10.with bags and lowered and all that stuff.im using a 12 bolt rear.the rims im using are 26".but the bolt pattern is a dual one that is 4 1/2 and 4 5/8.will i have any issues using these brackets after i press out studs on axels and have them redrilled.

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

If you are needing a wheel stud pattern other than the 5 x 5, the rotors will also need to be redrilled. I've never heard of a 4 5/8" wheel stud circle. Are you certain that you measured the holes correctly?

Can I use the later model eldorado calipers like 79-85 e brake style with this setup? What's the difference in the 76-78 ebrake caliper?

Captainfab 12-24-2017 12:25 AM

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

No you can not use the smaller Metric '79-'85 calipers in place of the '76-'78 Eldorado calipers. They are physically a smaller size.

Any idea where I can find the e brake arms for the 76-78 style?

Captainfab 12-24-2017 01:04 AM

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

I make the arms and cable brackets and sell them in a kit with the springs and mounting hardware. They are $60.00 plus $7.15 for shipping. I believe they are shown somewhere in this thread. Look on pages 15 & 19.

I am officially notifying everyone that I will be on vacation from 02-05-18 thru 02-13-18. I will do my best to get all orders built and shipped before I leave, if placed by 01-31-18. Orders placed while I am gone will be built and shipped in order of receipt of payment once I return. Thanks for understanding.

I scanned the thread and saw some discussion but didn’t see an answer. Do you make a bracket for d52 wilwoods for a 6 lug axle? I’d like to go disc on rear of my k5, and want a matching set of calipers front and rear

Captainfab 01-26-2018 12:47 AM

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

No I do not. I have not found a 6 lug rotor that will accommodate the D52 caliper and pads.

Here are the 6 lug rear disc brackets that I do offer.

Holy Wow! I got my brackets a few days ago, Amazing work Cap! Talk about BEEFY! Sorry for the delayed response but I have been busy with work. I’m gonna get these put on tomorrow and I’ll get some pics posted up when I can. Again, thank you and keep up the good work.

Good morning all, so I have the D-52 brackets going on my 85 this mor and this may sound like a stupid question but is there a specific orientation for them? I put the driver side on for the caliper to the rear of the axle with no problem, then move to the passenger side but the alignment doesn’t work that way. The thicker intermediate bracket only lines up with the outer “c” bracket if it’s mounted forward of the axle. I assumed they both went to the rear. Am I wrong? I’ve tried adjusting the “c” bracket but that doesn’t help. I have pics but not sure if they will load. Thanks.

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

I found the problem. The intermediate bracket, the thickest one, is 4-1/2 inches wide on one side which allows for play against the back of the axle flange and 4-3/8 inches wide on the other which doesn’t allow for any play. Both brackets are this way. It’s as if the lazer cutter (or whatever was used) was not completely vertical while cutting them. I’ll take the one side to the shop and grind it down evenly and hopefully that works. It should. Just thought I’d give you a heads up Cap.

I also had to grind the inside of the intermediate bracket where it meets the axle flange, in order to get it to fit flush. aligning all the brackets was somewhat tricky. I chalked it up to small discrepancies in my particular axle. Also, had to grind down the “lip” of the outer pad, as it was grinding on the rotor hat.

*Pictures are turned funny, calipers are clocked in the correct position*

Yep, went to the shop and used a micrometer to check it and after about half an hour of grinding, I got it to match the other side and boom! I have to order my calipers and pads tomorrow but hopefully they won’t give me any hassle with fitment. We shall see. I’m just glad in a way that I wasn’t the only one with this issue....I thought I was going crazy. Lol

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

I appreciate the feedback. That's the only wayI know if something isn't fitting correctly. I will check into the dimensional issue with the spacers. Yes they are cut with a 400 amp high def plasma on a Kinetic table. That is why they have a little taper to the cut.

Interested in a set of these brackets. Any changes necessary referencing the above?

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

I have started checking the cut taper on the spacers and correcting if needed.

Sorry no, not yet. I still can't get all these local people to leave me alone so that I can work on new products and installation instructions. Which differential and what size of original drum brakes do you have?

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Let me see what I can do about determining the brake offset. I haven't been able to find a definitive answer online. I should have it written down at the shop. If nothing else I will have to tear apart the '90 10 bolt I have at the shop.

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

I mounted my brackets ( awesome by the way ) and I bolted on my D52 Wilwood calipers and I have a question about the Wilwood brake shoes.... the inner shoe goes on with the bolt going through the hole in the shoe and is snug....... the outer shoe just has the tabs that rest on the calipers yet they are loose fitting? Should they be?

I don't have nay brake lines or anything hooked up yet and not sure if that makes a difference or not?? Do they tighten up once there's brake lines and pressure attached???
