Got the stock drivetrain out and took the bed off. Lost the original timing chain at 99,996 miles. No compression. Have a 5.3/4l60e on the way and moving tank under the bed

Replaced the fan clutch a couple of weeks ago. Took it and ran it at 65 MPH up a long steep freeway grade that we have here. Got to 220º going up, and dropped to 205º on the way down. Cruising in town coming back home, it held right about 205º. I'll drain the radiator down far enough to check the tubes for crud. I have a 7-mile jaunt scheduled for a camp out close to home, to check it out further, and I won't be driving that fast- with the trailer it'll not be over 55- and some of the road is posted for 45 MPH. It ought to be running a little hot, when the air temperature is still over 110º. All this is with a 190º thermostat.

I'm up in the air whether to rod this one (if that is all it needs), as it is a 4-row brass job, replace it with the same, or get an aluminum radiator. Any one know off hand if the aluminum radiators are a direct fit? I've seen some pics of modifications being required to the radiator hose connections.

Radiator Service

As you said you have a four row core brass radiator it's a fairly simple thing to clean, use powdered citric acid mixed one pound of citric acid to each gallon of distilled water ~ mix this outside of the radiator and drive it a day or two, the coolant will turn dead black as it does it's thing, drain, flush and repeat until there's no clouds in the water / acid mix and no visible solder bloom .

This works with aluminum cooling systems too .

Remember to leave the heater's water valve wide open so it gets cleaned out too and never use tap water ! .

Are those A-arms and Control shafts for a 67-72 or did you upgrade to a 73-87 style?

Thanks! I flushed it about 5 years ago and put in water wetter and water pump lube, along with 50/50 coolant. I'll do this flushing after I get back from camping. We're not going all that far and it's pretty much level ground so we should be good for that little trip. I don't know if I have solder bloom, I haven't checked yet. I'll be doing checking that tomorrow. The wife wants the trailer in front of our house tomorrow to plug in the fridge and get it good and cold before we leave and it switches to propane. I'm charging the batteries which were deader than a mackerel. But that's a different problem to deal with. I'm thinking master disconnect or a solar panel and a voltage regulator to keep the batteries topped up. First I have to make sure that the batteries are any good after being flat for about a year, since that's how long it's been since we went camping last. Hand surgery has put that item on hold.

Fixed the throttle linkage. Step on the pedal and it sort of clicked like something was jamming up. Found the culprit and tightened it up.

Tired of getting pine needles and debris in my cab every time I turned on the heater.
Removed the heater core and found a nasty old mouse nest packed into the heater box.
Removed the nest, touched up the rusty metal, primed and painted now I am waiting for gaskets to reinstall.

Sorry, I do not know how to resize the pictures.

Plus while waiting for the gaskets, I needed to bypass the heater core. I could not find a 3/4" barb to 5/8" barb fitting.

So, here are a couple of fittings you should keep in your truck in case you need to bypass the heater core due to a leak.

The clutch pedal is gone, so a larger brake pedal pad was in order. The gas pedal to match eventually.

Looks great, try not to spend time on the edges as the buffer can burn through the paint. As you buff the flat sections stay off the edges, by the time you get a good shine on the flat the final buff will do the edges. Some guys tape over the sharp edges just in case.

I use the foam pads because they're a bit more forgiving on the edges

How bad were the imperfections and what 3M product did you use?

Going to flush the cooling system. Changed the heater hoses, since they've been on there for 10+ years, and had cheesy shutoff valves in them that my FiL installed. I don't know why, since they were open and the heater core doesn't leak.

Looks like I need the kick panel vacuum actuator. This is for the flap that regulates inside or outside air for the AC. Anyone know a part number other than the LMC or other aftermarket vendor? It lives (and died) at the top of the heater core, just above the heater hoses. I'd like to get it done with locally sourced parts, but ain't having much luck finding one. Went to a local parts store, and the guy started looking through the vacuum advance pix for it.

yes sir. thank you for the reminder. it was pretty intimidating. started on the lower areas "just in case" haha got through the "black pad/black lid" today. very happy with the subtle changes. gonna do the "blue pad" tomorrow.

Test fit the rotor and caliper. Wilwood said these calipers would not fit with the CPP modular spindle. They fit like a glove! Buttoning this up tomorrow so it can go back on the ground for the first time in a couple of months.

im a rookie and i have an unconventional paint system. i bought a turbine spray rig from TpTool a year ago. the cap pressure is very low and i did not reduce the epoxy enough according to the guys i bought the sprayer from. the clear sprayed pretty orange-peely too. lots and lots of wet sanding. i actually enjoyed the experience, watching what looked like the moons surface smooth out to at least a 10' paint job.

here is the 3 bottles i got. wool pad with the white lid, black foam with black lid and yes, you guessed it......blue foam with blue lid

You're using what I normally use and it's great stuff. I've used it for years and it's awesome.
