spent about and hour fighting an grill that was chromed that was a little twisted
the bold holes didn't line up the were a little off .. got the first side on the got
the first one started then have to massage the second one to get started.
if it wasn't the fact that i took my old grill to the chrome plater and he had one all ready done i should have just told them to do mine .
that was over two years ago .. owell .live and learn :chevy:

The grill support looks impressively straight. Did you have any dent/rust repair to do?

niterider65 12-25-2017 12:09 PM

Re: 1965 chevy truck one piece @a time

it was off a truck in california same as the radiator support
it was dent and rust free it was painted red it must have have 6 coats of paint
on it i striped down to bear metal then epoxed then used urethane primer
then the last coat is a satin flat black single stage urethane paint.:chevy:

its mounted to a 4pd and drum brakes all around done run and drive
brakes are a little scary and no power .. want to make it a good daily driver

a few more of the 1964 going to have a small list of things that need to be done.
what was neat it still has the date mare on the inside of the hood it was a plane jane truck
the guy i bought it from
said it had a pontiac 350 in it and the org motors long gone he bought an 230 inline and put in is
4 spd is saginaw dors shut nice and the windows stick a little rolling up and down might just need
a little grease or new rollers .the linkage needs little work .

When out in to the shop tonight to run the numbers on the block to double check what the guy told me the motor was. well he told me it was a l6
230 but after running the numbers its a 250 75-79 year block ..
and found out some red neck style motor mounts really wood come on and what were they thinking with a 5 to 6 inch long run of all thread

Re: 1965 chevy truck one piece @a time

I've heard of using long pieces of all thread to help hold the trans while you guide the input shaft thru the TOB and the clutch disc, but you are supposed to remove them and replace with bolts when done.

Yes it is amazing what some people will make use of rather than just get the correct parts.

Did you get the power steering box also even though they cut the pitman arm?

niterider65 01-20-2018 10:01 PM

Re: 1965 chevy truck one piece @a time

No he didn't have the power steering but had the rest but will see it the drum brake will work not ready to really get to wraped up in the 64 just yet
need to finish getting the 65 before really gettin nasty with the red truck
but might need a couple of brackets again like the power steering bracket and power brake booster if and when i start the build :metal:
