vote red

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I'd vote red but only if the texture of the remaining column can be matched. If not, then chrome.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

The more I think about it I think chrome would hide the shift gear selector and I want to accent that so red it is.

Very cool! I like how the red needle disappears off the right side and reappears again on the far left. And nothing like listening to some old Dirt Band on 8-track!
What volume & selector knobs on the radio are you going to go with...the ones in the video or how they are shown a few posts back? The ones in the video look to me to be from a '80s GM radio.

I'm using the originals these are just what I had on the bench to test it. I want this truck to look stock with all these mods that most except purists would not even notice.

Enjoyed the video. That's a great addition to your build. Who did the radio resto?

I got a dealer accessory from era Pontiac. It's called instant aire. It uses manifold vacuum pump up tires and such. The pump sits under the seat till you need it. Then just hook it up to the valve and you have compressed air.

Got one of these 60's reel out lights for under the hood as well. I do plan on driving this when I'm done so you never know when you will need a light.

I was really torn between drums and discs but my dad said don't be silly son you added everything available era related so put discs on and be done with it. When your doing your brake maintenance you will be thankful. So they showed up today too!

My mcgaughys disc kit not only didn't come with dust shields it didn't come drill or tapped to mount them. I got some from a 72 and I tapped the holes to mount them. I thought it was a little crappy for those not to be tapped for the price you pay.

I bought a new master cylinder for disc drum but all the new M/C didnt have the residual valve in the rear drum side of the M/C so I removed mine from my original and installed it into my new one. It is the rubber and spring that goes behind the brass head that seats to the line flare. If it was there from factory I believe it was there for a reason.

Also added a disc brake button to my pedal like the 60's era gm cars used.

Didn't realize dodge offered a slider for the passenger seat. I've been trying to convert my Chevy slider to the passenger side without much luck. Hopefully I can track one of these down....

If you do the tool box door, I bet if you give Mar-K.com a call, they will work with you on building some custom trim. Also, just noticed you didn't use the dodge passenger side seat tracks. Do you still have them?

I already had all my original 67 brake lines finished and really did not want to put new ones on again for the disc brakes so I did some research. Here is what I came up with. In 1967-70 chevy cars used separate metering, proportioning valve and distribution blocks and in 1971 went to a combination valve with all 3 of these in it. I decided to go the early 67-70 car route . The proportioning valve is on the frame and the metering and distribution block are next to the master cylinder.

What kind of vehicle did this come out of

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

It is the system GM Used on disc brake cars, not just Camaro's, from 1967 to 1970. Here is more info on it. http://www.camaros.org/brakevalve.shtml

The thermometer is from 74 to 78 gmc trucks I believe. Definitely from the square bodies.

Got this overdrive cable from a chevy 3 speed standard transmission with over drive. If I choose to do a gear vendors overdrive I will incorporate it to work so it looks vintage.
