Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
GREAT NEWS!!! The cab is back from the media blaster today! It's primed in R/M Epoxy primer. Looking good. If the winds weren't 50-60 mph right now I would take some pics. It turned out really good, and now I know how much of the floor I need to replace. I can't wait!

Okay, I endured the winds so I could get some pics posted. They're not the best, but here you go.

I've taken some close ups. There is quite a bit of damage, but it shouldn't be too bad to repair.

Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Here is the first trial fit...right now it's a little long, so I'm going to have to pull it back out and cut it down a little.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...C/DSCF7430.jpg yes, I know it's not completely flush here...this was more for length :) http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...C/DSCF7431.jpg Did I mention it's a little long? http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...C/DSCF7432.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...C/DSCF7433.jpg http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...C/DSCF7435.jpg |
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Cool, I was wondering if you gave up on this thing! :D
|
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
I didn't give up...the budget did
|
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
I understand that! I'm gonna have to do about the same fixes as you're doing on this cab. I haven't even gotten all the pieces rounded up yet.
|
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Yeah, I figure I have another $200 in parts to buy to repair some of the issues I found once I removed the rocker panel. This does include cab corners, floor pieces, A & B pillars, and outer rocker panels.
|
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Well I dont' have to do the pillars but I'm going to have to replace the cab supports underneath. Are yours not rusted through?
|
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Ooooh yeah, they need replacing as well.
|
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Your Garage Looks like the house i bought my acura integra from, you in the draper/ riverton area?
I think the truck is gonna turn out awesome!! I say its time we get a few other utah members in on a truck meet! |
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Yeah, I'm in the South Jordan area (west of Daybreak). I think by the time I'm 50 (18 yrs) it should be ready to drive
We should definitely see if we can get a few Utah members together for a meet. |
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
haha 18 years :) lol Looks like your rockers are coming together nice? I have the same situation with mine, little bit of rust on the floor board...and I need to change my rockers out...Any advice? I'm intimidated by them, my auto body guy has been booked so I can either wait on him...or go at it myself.
Cant decide , For the time being I'm just enjoying this nice weather! |
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
I would do a lot of research here :) Of coarse it's much easier to read about it then actually do the work
They aren't too bad, I'm just on hold until I can save up the money to buy the cab supports and other peices before I weld things together. The inner rockers are about 1" too long, so I need to do some shaping, but I'm not even going to attempt that until I get the parts. |

I dont blame you on holding off. While the cab is off...and it being a once in a lifetime restore...its good to make sure its done right. There was a guy in my neighborhood selling a 71 3/4 ton it had a nice paint job on it and was clean...he was asking 4800.00. I wasn't even considering buying it just was looking. Any-who I got under it to look at the floor boards....Bondo, Chicken Wire, and the front passenger cab support was rotted out, it was sitting on a piece of 2x4" hahha I was like wow my small rust issue on my rockers is nothing! |
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
Well, when you plan on doing it I would suggest budgeting for pieces you don't think you need, like the A&B piller sections and kick panels. It was a "surprise" to me. I guess it shouldn't have been but it was :)

What I really want to do is find a split bench seat...out of a suburban or like a second row hummer h2 and put it in my pick up. just run a switch for the heated leather...I've thought about just stealing it out of my fathers hummer....but I think he'd be a little upset haha! |
Re: 69 GMC "Ol' Blue"
I'm sure he wouldn't mind

Yeah... I'm so tempted....who needs a second row seat anyway right? |
