Looking good! I'm really wanting to shave my firewall and run vintage air but the budget isn't looking good for that for me

it didn't cost really anything to shave the firewall just steel. im unsure of the cost of the vintage air w/ ac. the smoothed out firewall outweighs the cost of the vintage air unit for me. there will be tons more work on the firewall to come! i plan to box in the channel where the original engine wiring ran, plus some surface rust on the driver side. only a little at a time!

Re: My 69 lonbed

Other than the fact that you cut the top hump down is this the look you're going for? If I do shave my firewall I'm going all the way with this look including relocating the booster to the frame or under the dash....so it'll cost me about 2G to do between Vintage air and the frame mounted booster setup and pulleys for the A/C, etc....

But it looks SOOOOOOO sweet!!!! (Especially with the LSX like in this picture)

Re: My 69 lonbed

Scotts hot rods makes frame mounted and under dash mounted setups. I've read of clearance issues with both....frame mount with exhaust and under dash mount with wiper motors.....one thing always leads to another

Are you going to smooth your cowl like in the above picture?

Re: My 69 lonbed

i was thinking about it. im going to close off the fresh air vents in the cab so more than likely yeah. i'm going to keep my wind wings and i'll have ac so no worrys. it's been countless times when im driving down the freeway open the fresh air vents and get suffocated with dust, leaves and what ever else gets in through the cal. **** sucks! ha ha. i was going to do 1 peice windows but then i found out you have to hack your door. plus with the 1 piece rubber it looks funny because it kicks out where the wind wing was. to me when the trucks laid out on frame wind wings out and its a longbed... looks tits

Do you mean build thread? If so no i dont because well, i havent really done any mods to them. I got them both the way they are. Plans for the '70 are an air ride kit from ridetech, foose nitrous or nitrousII wheels, and a system. The '72 4x4 is just my daily driver. Plans are to make it a swb, repair rust, slap some paint on, maybe later down the road stick a vortec in it. Hopefully ill have enough money by this winter to start on the '72 and have a build thread. Untill then, i just sit and watch, wishing i had the some money and time, not to mention the skills you guys have!

Re: My 69 lonbed

yeah i was unsure if you had a build thread or not. both trucks look great. im not so sure about the tail lights on the one though... any plans for those?

Re: My 69 lonbed

I kinda like them, they had stupid plastic covers on them, so i took those off. They are from an '83 s-10, they sure do get a lot of comments though!

thanks, im gonna have it primer and build it up first. drive it and get all the bugs out. tear it down and go with some kind of electric blue

texanidiot25 09-03-2009 11:32 PM

Re: My 69 lonbed

Oh but blue is so common... How many properly orange trucks do you see?

Plus if you ever got in an accident, and the other guy says "I didn't see him coming", you can call total bull****.

very good point (there are tons of blues out there on vehicles so if its going to be blue make it a custom one so it stands out) that is what i would do:lol:

yeah the picture of the truck fully assembled the frame was not notched. Brothers sells a frame notch kit the will let you go about 2 inchs lower that the picture. I think its like 150 bucks it requires little cutting and it bolts in place. And you can still use your stock suspension.

beautiful truck...
Can u give me sum more info on what i can do to get the lowest
possible stance while still using stock suspension for the
time being thanks for your info

Here is a url for the notch
http://www.brotherstrucks.com/prodin...number=CNK6372

here is the url for the drop blocks

for the front you can buy 2.5" drop spindles but your front cross member will limit you. basically your front cross member will sit on the ground not allowing you to go lower. many companys make spindles so they shouldn't be hard to find. they also make an aftermarket front cross member that will let you lay frame (the route im going) if your not running air bags you shouldn't have any problems with the spindles and will give you a nice stance. these spindles can be used with your factory control arms or aftermarket
let me know if you need any more help/info

Great progress. I thought you had mentioned a dropmember for the front....are you changing plans and sectioning the crossmember now or did you just bolt that up for the picture?

yeah most definately using the drop member but when i move my frame around at the shop i need to lift the frame in the back with a forklift while putting a strap from the front of my frame back to the forklift. its a hassle every time i move it so now i just strap the rear of the frame and push it instead of carrying it. its more of a convenience thing. plus i don't have the 2 grand right now to get my drop member! ha ha
