There all JUnk rust buckets , Dodge ford GM they all rot out with in 5 years in my area , I have friends that pay 40 50 60 70 k for these newer trucks and they are all rusted out after 5 years. I should go sit at a gas station and shoot some video for 20 min of just 2015 and up Gm,ford and dodges that pull in for gas so you can see how they rust, if you are driving them to your office job everyday they are ok but if you use them as what they are suppose to be intended for then they become a pile of rust in no time at all,

I grew up in the rust belt, best I can tell, it's been that way since cars were invented. I remember 5 year old square bodies with door bottoms, rockers, and cab corners and fender wells rotted out. I owned an 86 toyota truck that snapped a control arm from rust while I was driving it in 1997. Luckily it happened during a snow storm and I was only going like 10 mph. The frame was garbage on that truck too.

I left in 1999 and have no desire to go back. I even rent cars now when I go up there.

I live in the high desert. No rust to speak of around here. But the sun will do a number on your paint, upholstery, tires etc. It will literally bake your car. Plenty of stuff here with a nasty sunburn. I can't even touch my steering wheel in the summer without getting burned.

It's funny people refer to being brand loyal. I never looked at it that way. More like true to myself. It's about me. I had my reasons, and there were many, to become a Chevy/GM guy at a point in life and I'm stickin' with it until I have a reason to switch. Just how I want to be. I don't like a hodge podge in my driveway. I like consistency, being solid, knowing what I like.

No, it won't hurt their bottom line. That's why they dropped them. But, I think it will be the opposite. The few late model short beds available will be highly sought after. There are those seeking now and there are those who don't think much of them now who will be as time goes by. It will be like the convertible or any other variation taken from us after some time passes. Look at the popularity of station wagons. Remember when wagons weren't cool? I do, when I bought my son a near mint '65 Biscayne Wagon for $2k. Now people go after 4dr Sedans. I never thought Square bodies were anything special when they were the current style. But they were Chevy Trucks and I was a Chevy Truck guy

The circle.... They last year model single cab SWB's will be the 'desirable' once again just like 6x-87 C10 short beds are. Only, it will happen sooner vs. later.

I agree GM's move to drop the rcsb trucks will make the existing trucks desirable.

I drive my sc 71 Longhorn everyday, but having a 4 door truck in the wings makes that easier.

I have seen a few Fords I liked, but I have never owned one, so I probably won't start now.

I haven't bought myself a new truck since 1990. I have been thinking about a new GM truck with 4 doors and 6.2 liter engine.

I can't say I totally love the looks of any new truck.

My buddy is a tech @ Ford so I see a bunch of them. There are good & bad (same as the rest... including GM). There is a guy running around from his dealership that has one of the newer F150's in the single cab short fleet version. Has a 5.0 in it & lowered 2/4 w/some clean 20's. Good lookin truck the way he has it set up.

My x-wife has an 07 F150 (6cyl/5spd/bare bones/single cab/short fleet). It's been a solid dependable ride for her.

$40K?
Local dealer has Dodge 1/2t 4wd 4 door Hemi "classic" trucks for around $23k. All the options except navigation-satellite stuff and leather. It's thier work truck line but you'd never know aside from the black grill

I drove the backroads to the shop the other day to avoid the chemicals.

The only Ford truck that has interested me in the last 50 years was the Lightning. Not enough to buy one mind you but it did stir my interest. What did they make those about 5 years or so?

Anything not 4wd is worthless around here nine months out of the year. You probably wouldn't want the rock chip damage the other three months.

Yeah. They made them from 1999 to 2004 IIRC. I saw one for sale just the other day. And I had to hold myself back.

So no new and pretty 2wds for you. I used to live on a farm with a cattle gate at the road and the house was fenced in on the middle of the place. I had a girlfriend who drove a '76 Vette with side pipes down that lane through the wash outs and cow pies. It took here a while, but she'd creep that thing on in idling through those side pipes

I miss side pipes. My brother had them on his 71 Roadrunner. They were cool.

Beautiful little red Corvette Paul. Did you burn your legs getting out? I built a replica 65 Cobra (Chevy powered of course) with side pipes and I think I still have scars.

I thought they were ok.... I would of liked them more as a fleetside since that's my flavor. I think Ford should use the Raptor body in 2wd/single-cab version & do a new 2020 Lightning w/the GT500 drivetrain.

 I saw a young couple driving a 1969 Impala over Tincup Pass back in 1989. They made it down the west side okay but the car was somewhat the worse for wear. Ironically, we were driving my old short bed 2wd stepside. But that was back when they still made pickups. It had 16" wheels and a four speed.

It wasn't really their fault. Back then the east side was just a rough gravel road, and they started down the west side before they realized how bad it was and it was too late to turn back. They more or less skidded down the first half mile on their rocker panels. I haven't been back up there now for decades, but judging from YT videos the road has been all tore to hell by motorcycles.

It's not that it's so rough around here (though my driveway is deep rutted now because of the UPS truck :( ) but I don't see how anyone ever gets all the mud off the bottom of low clearance vehicles. It's hard enough to hose off the Jeep and the 4x4 pickups.

No. But I burned my leg on my Harley at a barbecue (how appropriate) I rolled up and was so busy running my mouth that when I got off the bike I had neglected to put the kickstand down. :dohh: It fell right on me. I was lucky there were people there to lift the bike off me. That bike was heavy. And that pipe was burning hot. I was wearing shorts and my leg was medium rare.

But I did meet a cute girl there. So WTF. :)
