I'm 5'10" and 172 lbs - that puts me near the upper limit of the normal BMI. But my body fat is around 10%, so I think the BMI is a bunch of hogwash.
I had an Army doc tell me once that my "ideal" weight was 155 lbs. I told him I had worked very hard to build up to this weight and I wasn't about to sacrifice any of it. |

I've never been a runner. I've always been a good sitter, but not a runner. I remember back in Freshman year of HS we had PE teacher, Mr. Himmler, we called him Her Himmler (but not to his face). He loved to make us run, I hated that guy.
We had the usual track we could have run around, but he made us run around the block that housed the track, football field, and bleachers. Ugh, I think I could see the curvature of the earth it was so large. One time me and a buddy were goofing around and actually hitched a ride from a student driving by. We came so close to getting away with it until one of Himmler's Hench students turned us in. Go around again boys and if you cant do it in X (I forgot the time), you get to do it again. |

I never paid much attention to BMI either but I suppose it serves a purpose. Main thing is to not be in denial about yourself. A good friend of mine is right on 6' and weighs around 230. Overweight obviously but nothing severe and not a big deal. But the problem with him is the denial of it. He said to me one time that if he weighed 190 pounds he would be a bean pole. Lol. That's what you call denial. Come on buddy, your only six feet tall. 190 would be an excellent weight. I myself have always been more towards the skinny side and have always wanted to gain more weight. I am slowly getting there.

I did an “easy” run tonight. 2.25 miles.
I think I’ll try to get some morning runs in when I’m not working. The goal is to work up to 4 to 6 miles per run. 3 to 4 times a week and eventually 5 days a week. I’m hoping there will be some 5k events this fall. |

I beat the rain tonight.
Another 2.25 miles at the park. 3 times around. The park has some decent hills. I did a modified tempo run, faster than normal pace and hit the hills harder. Started to rain just as I jumped in my truck to leave. |

I don't run but I like to walk. Not power walking or even so much a physical fitness walk. I just walk relaxed and take in the scenery while clearing my mind. All walking is good for you. I take a right and walk up the road 1/2-1 mile depending on time, 1/2hr or hour. I keep the trash pickup, too.
Day before yesterday I saw something I never saw before. Walking along the left edge of the road toward my place I hear a quick rustling sound in the grass and leaves. I look and it's a snake coiled. Look closer, real quick, and see it's a copperhead. What I heard was it striking. It was ready! It was too far away but it was striking to scare me off multiple times. If I had been right at the edge he might have gotten me. Then I walk about 100' more and I see a skinny little snake casually coiled on the actual pavement edge. Even though I just saw a copperhead I figured it was a racer, which you see squashed on the road often. I thought this one might be dead. I get a stick and poke. It strikes and sure enough it's another copperhead. That thing was real nasty and fighsty. This day was as warm as it has gotten this year and I guess they woke up grumpy. Where I saw them was where a stream crosses under the road, one before and the other after crossing. So yesterday I was very mindful of that area. I walked closer to the center and had my eyes peeled. I think it was a bird, but I heard a rustle and it made me jump and have a heart attack! :lol: I never see snakes on my walks, other than dead ones. |

Tonight was 50* and a little wind.
It was a LSD night.... long slow distance run. I got in 4.2 miles. My longest run of the year. I sure do like the milder weather. I’m not looking forward to hot temperatures. I still need to get in some morning runs. None so far. |

I went out and checked the game camera behind my house tonight. That camera makes me look like I have a gut.
Seriously, I have put some weight on this winter that has to go. |

I went 7.6 at 4:30 this morning. It was cold... I thought we were done with the cold weather.

The problem with getting up so early is that by 9:00 it feel like nap time.
This is the first of 3 major hills and 2 minor hills on my route. I hit the bottom of this one at the beginning of mile 3. |

Seabees like to formation run so there was always enough ego pushing the pack around the base, down the street, up the beach, etc..
Navy prt standards are lame, 1.5mi run 14-16min or something like that based on age.. I averaged 9-10min when I was younger and 10-11 toward the end to retirement.. NCW were pt hounds, 8 count body builders, be-gin and assorted fun cardio games.. I don't run now but Mrs Bee 10 years my younger is a running / gym freak but keeps that smokin bod in top shape.. I need to get back to some form of exercise, an inch from 50, I've put a few pounds on driving the desk :rolleyes: |

I just did a mid day run. 2 miles in 17 minutes.
I’d like to get that to 15 minutes. I e got a lot of work to do. Keep the comments coming. I’d like to hear other goals and if you have PRs. |

I hung out with ya Alpha types but was a CE. I did my time at the PHIB then got out of Cali as fast as I could. Spent the rest of my time on the east coast. Caught the detailer love and did the last 2 years at Diego.
OF13. I haven't heard that in a hot minute. They came up with some new title a few years ago. Sorry for the derail guys. |

this is great, good on you, I love to run but when I turned 45 almost three years ago, as if somebody flipped a switch my body went downhill, up till 45 I felt like a 25 year old
I consider myself fit and in shape used to run 3 miles a day 5 days a week (nice maintenance run) I also swam and lifted weights, but man my knees are done, I just started running again during the quaranteen with my daughter and after a week or two of one milers my knees are toast, I'm 185 lbs at 5'11" so it's not like I am carrying a ton of weight so a message to you youngins run, exercise, do stuff while you can, cause a day will come where you will want to but won't be able any more I swim now, well not not as the gyms and pools are closed but you know what I mean |
