I got some pics of me replacing the driver's side cab corner over the weekend. I didn't get any until I started fitting the new panel back on though. But what I did was figured out a line where I wanted to do the repair and used masking tape to create a strait line on the patch panel. Then I used my cut of wheel to cut along the taped edge. I cut just off of the edge a little and used my 90deg die grinder with a roll lock disk to finish it in. "80 grit" That was it for my patch panel. Now on to the cab. I trimmed some material off the bottom of the cab corner that way I could fit the patch panel. Then I used a scribe to mark where I wanted to make the cut when I was happy with where it was sitting. Clecos are a great for fitting and holding panels in place. I made the cut and used some butt welding clamps to tack very thing in place. I also used a 3/8 135 deg split point drill to drill out the spot welds.

Cool build..looks like you are in east mesa...where is the place that you bought your engine and tranny located at?

You are right I am in east mesa. About the Signal Butte and Brown area. Turn key is in Oceanside CA.

Got to be tough working in such a small shop with hardly no access to equipment ( lathe, laser jet ect ) lol nah I'm just jealous. Looks like this build will be done be spring.

Got some work done on the firewall this past weekend. Cut out the old ac holes and filled it with some new sheet metal. I had one of my friends from work help me with this, I was working on the other cab corner while he was filling the hole. He does great work and I can trust that he will do it right.

Finally able to work on the truck again after the holidays. I did get a little work done while I was off of work for Christmas and New Years. Got the passenger side cab corner fitted. I did not like how the fitment of the door gap. I decided to cut it off and remake the lip. The first one I made was decent but I did not put a flange on it so that the two parts would mate up flush. This time I will take a few more pictures as I form the part. I also made a pattern out of some 1/4" plywood. Now I wont have to keep mating it up to the truck to see if it fits.

I finally was able to get back into the shop and it do the final fit up of the passenger side cab corner. It looks pretty good should be able to burn it in. I just need to do a few more repairs to the sill and clean up the rocker panel backing plate.

I got the passenger side cab corner all welded in. I just need to do the finishing on it and should be good to go.

I didn't get any pictures of the welded in cab corner but I have been busy with lots of other things. I got the back of the cab all sanded back down. The stupid swamp cooler got surface rust all over the back during the monsoon season. That really pissed me off because I was stupid and didn't seal the whole cab after sandblasting. I didn't think it would be a big deal but it made a mess of things and it all needed to be cleaned up.

The cab had a stupid little hole in the roof where someone had put an antenna. That kind of stuff just bugs the crap out of me. Anyway here is the repair of the hole. I forgot to take a picture of the hole before made it into a rectangle.
I used a pencil grinder with a small cut off wheel to do the repair. I am sure that a regular die grinder and cut off wheel would work but I wanted the accuracy of the pencil grinder. Cut the patch on the band saw and flanged the ends to keep it in place for welding. This repair came out pretty good considering it was right in the middle of the roof. As a side note. The magnet I used in the picture is a super strong mag base I use for holding indicators and many other things. The welder Does funny things when that strong of a magnet is being used. When I was tacking the pcs in place it was as if the metal was rejecting the weld. Anyway I will have to do a bit of research to see why it did that. |

We use magnets to direct the light in our particle accelerator here at work. I've designed things not knowing this and had one of our welders try to weld a magnet in that tube and he had a great time trying to chase the weld when it was moving all around.

I had some core support mounts cut out since mine where all messed up. I made 10 sets so if anyone needs a set PM me. I can sell them flat or welded up. They have the larger body mount hole cut in them. They fold up and weld very easily. $40 unwelded $50 welded + Shipping.

Picked up a 66 last Sunday. This truck has everything less motor and trans, its just all in box's. :)
