Jamie, check your PM's. I have some feedback on these for the 73-87's. I will be sending you the pics in an email.

Do you think you could send me some info on these headers for the 73-87's too? I'm doing a 6.0l swap on my truck and trying to find some good headers.

There is issues with the drivers side header, it won't fit our bodystyle.

Where's the problem and what style of motor mounts are you using?

Re: The LS1 swap headers are done!!!!

I am still going to use Thorleys, just going to wait until the get them modified for 73-87's. There is just a clearance issue with the tube going over the top.

I am using standard S&P plates.

Yeah the Thorleys look great and Tri-y will deliver perfectly at the power band I've got, so I think I'll wait too.

Do you think the same problem would exist if using the ECE motor mounts?

No, they wouldn't, but then the motor would be to far forward compared to a stock SBC. I actually want to move it back some

This is with ECE plates (almost 3" forward from normal)

This is with S&P plates (where it is supposed to be)

I am really wanting to move the engine back another 1" if I can, but I would settle with what I have.

I'm currently working with another member to see if the headers work with the later body style with different mounts. I will keep you guys posted.

Re: The LS1 swap headers are done!!!!

What mounts are they Jamie? I have had 3 different motor plates from 3 different sources, they are all the same as far as location goes. The only different one would be ECE motor mounts which move the engine WAY to far forward for a 73-87 bodystyle (see above pic)

It pcmcobra and he is using the carshop plates. He is anticipating the same issues. We will know more early next week when he gets to try the headers on. Looks like its only one pipe on the d/s that is hitting the power brake booster.

I know that the engine in the 67 I did seemed to be way foward as well.

Anybody have a 73-87 with the ece or cpp mounts?

Captkaos 05-01-2008 01:24 AM

Re: The LS1 swap headers are done!!!!

If they are these plates, they are the same as everyone elses stuff.. Common 4 hole SBC mount with a LS 3 hole mount and common lower hole, spacing won't be any different.

here is the comparison:

Re: The LS1 swap headers are done!!!!

Ok,
I got the headers today, and I can verify I am having the same issue as capt, kaos.
I am using the carshop plates, pretty much the same "standard" design as posted above.
Drivers side is hitting firewall "protrusion, same exact as posted above.

Passenger side seems fine:

I wonder if the ECE mounts will give you more room? I know they will move the engine forward a couple of inches. Do yoyu have the room?

Rob,
I am not sure. I could look it over and see, who's got some ece mounts for me to try?

Just measure 2" forward all the way around and see if anything hits, :D.

Re: The LS1 swap headers are done!!!!

ouch, those ece mounts are $219...
I'd rather use the mounts I have. Even sent the tranny xmember off to get a little "work" done to it so the 80 will bolt up.
Hopefully we can get this figured out.
