Unfortunately, no. I have to take my ship to the shipyard in Charleston, SC, we will leave 11-21 and probably not get back until after the first of the year. You will see me at LST 2015.:metal:

No, I loaned it to a buddy in Fairfield. I lived there for a long time and moved here to Burnet about 12 years ago. My wife is originally from Burnet and I didn't really have any family in Fairfield anymore so where we lived didn't matter to me.

About the only time this truck pounded the Burnet pavement was over 15 years ago when we would come down to visit.

Ahh, I see. I went to school with a guy, had one damn near identical. Early 90s. Mine is similar, although in a million pieces. 72 Cheyenne Super. Med Olive/White/Med Olive.

Put in an order with GMC Pauls and got these patch panels, inner rockers with floor extensions, kick panels, cab corners and lower A pillar patches.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psyhhcidhh.jpg

Started stripping the cab down,

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps83571fbe.jpg

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps10ad2b23.jpg

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps910593f9.jpg

Got the cab stripped down and then decided I would lift the cab. Since my lift was 200 miles away at a buddy's shop in Houston, I had to make do. Used a porta power and some wood and bricks got it raised high enough to clear the frame rails.

Slid a 2x4 and a 2x6 under the cab and put some pushrods between the boards and slid it off the frame.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps7d8ed234.jpg

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps422e17bb.jpg

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psfe2de026.jpg

Sketchy, I know, but it worked and there was no trip to the emergency room.

Found some 8" swivel casters laying around and whipped out a cab dolly out of the lumber used for sliding the cab off the frame.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps107aab54.jpg

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps67caa5b8.jpg

Moves around pretty easy and should really be nice once I get it to the garage to work on. So since I was on a roll I hooked up the riding mower to see if it would tow it. lol

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps05cd3e69.jpg

And that will pretty much be my last update until after the first of the year, I have to take my ship up to Charleston SC for a shipyard period and that will go up through Christmas. Probably won't be home until well after the new year.

Re: Project: "ResuWrecktion" '71 Custom Deluxe C-10

Not much progress as far as actual work getting done, ended up missing the whole holiday season and just got back home last weekend for a few days. But on the up side I made a few dollars. That allowed me to start stacking more parts, contacted Travis at AZ Pro Performance and placed my order for an entire Porterbuilt Extreme kit.

Front to back kit with everything including the Baer big brake kit and the new 24 x 15 rear dropmember. Also snagged the PB bolt on body drop kit to get me that much lower to the ground. I know it will be at least April before the PB stuff starts to ship, but I'm super excited.:metal:

Bought a pretty sweet interior out of a friends truck that he was selling so that puts me ahead on the interior side of things. (thanks David).

I will continue to tear the truck down and put the pieces in storage before I actually start any restoration work. So I started taking the bed apart and should get that finished this weekend. Some pics...

Thanks Dan, welcome aboard. It's gonna be a slow one.

Semi productive weekend:

Finally got the bed disassembled and removed, gonna cut out a few bed floor cross sills and trash the rest of the steel bed floor. Raised wood floor is the plan after the PB rear suspension is in.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psa779cb23.jpg

The goal is to remove everything from the frame rails and prep the rails for the new suspension. So I've been grinding factory rivets and removing brackets and cross members.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps457b66b9.jpg

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...pscb003725.jpg

And here's where I stopped for the weekend, only 6 more rivets and a few bolts and it will be stripped from the transmission back.

Managed to get all the stock suspension removed front to rear. About the only thing I'll be re-using is the rear end. Front cross member is loose and engine perches are loose, I just need to get my engine hoist and trailer so I can remove the engine and trans and take it to storage. It'll take a couple of trips to the storage unit to get my back yard cleaned up again. Getting closer though.

Been too long since an update, progress has been slow but is starting to pick up.

Got my Baer brake stuff from Travis at AZ Pro Performance when he came to LST and started modifying the McGaughy spindles to accept the Baer discs and 14" rotors.

Rear Pads,

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psomh92y4m.jpg

Billet hubs,

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psyim4sems.jpg

Rear calipers and bracketry,

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psjoh9lrx8.jpg

McGaughy 2 1/2" drop spindles

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psexnqelaw.jpg

Front caliper and mounting bracket

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...pskmqbztpo.jpg

To fit the calipers on these spindles I had to drill and tap a couple of holes and cut & grind down some spindle material for everything to clear. Nothing like taking a brand new part out of the box and cutting it up.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psjpzwilwo.jpg

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...pspt78oki7.jpg

Top spindle is modified, bottom is as received.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psbtzon4uk.jpg

Mounting bracket in place:

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...pspta6df4e.jpg

Caliper mounted to new spindle

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psiiwmsohq.jpg

The question was asked by a friend about removing that much material, how strong would the spindle be when you applying the brakes?

This is a pic of the pieces I cut from the new spindle to mount the new caliper. The piece on the left shows the thickness of material in current mounting location, the piece on the right is the original caliper mounting area. I measured the two areas, original is 9mm thick and new mount thickness is 20mm thick. So the thickness is more than double at the new location.

Still have parts coming in, new rack and pinion, u-joints and steering shaft.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psqtx4zzqq.jpg

Ridetech shocks.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps1ykfxpig.jpg

And a new T-shirt.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psqtx4zzqq.jpg

Gas fill hole delete plate and bed stake pocket delete plates.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...pswuhjizx0.jpg

Engine and transmission finally pulled from the frame and headed to the storage unit.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psyhiudhpn.jpg

Re: Project: "ResuWrecktion" '71 Custom Deluxe C-10

I finally got time to stop by and see my buddy David (Slick67) and his '72 blazer project. He's removed the top and converted the front end over to a '67 and is making great progress.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...pskhid2trx.jpg

Picked up my interior from him while I was there, a couple of pics but I never took any of the seats. I loved the interior in Slick and had to have it when David began parting out the truck. :metal:

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps0lq0qyto.jpg

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psgf9hht4a.jpg

I decided I want to go with a front roll pan so I got in touch with Grant Kustoms and they are making me the front roll pan and fender cups. The fender cups extend the front edge of the fenders down 2 inches to make up the gap when the truck is laid out.
Hopefully it will look similar to this one.

Re: Project: "ResuWrecktion" '71 Custom Deluxe C-10

Started patching the holes in my high hump cover that I picked up from NLPED here on the board, only got one pic of the fit up but I had several holes to fill and a couple of patches to make.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psgplv7ins.jpg

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...pssp5trzud.jpg

Cut the floor out and still have to get the fit right. The seam between the floor pan and toeboard was off about 3/16" from the factory. With carpet in place you would never notice, but trying to fit the hump in it was really throwing things out of whack.

So I drilled out the factory spot welds at the seam and repositioned it.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psukct6hie.jpg

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psf4qrivsp.jpg

More pics as I work through the fit up.

The gas tank is removed so it's time to fill the hole.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...pscj8m1kir.jpg

Patch panel in and welded.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...pspwkhrbqg.jpg

Lots of grinding later and it doesn't look too bad, a thin coat of filler and it will look perfect.

I'm no body man so I will just do the best I can with it!

Re: Project: "ResuWrecktion" '71 Custom Deluxe C-10

Well operation cancer removal started this weekend! I knew I had patch panels to install but did not expect to be replacing cab support sections.

Oh well, more parts on order from GMC Paul's and it has become painfully obvious that I'm gonna have to invest in a sand blaster ( local guy went out of business!)....

Pulled the drivers door off and started working on the rocker panel, floor section, cab corner and anything else that looked like crap. There's plenty that looks like crap.:waah:

Pics:

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psx0djzqpz.jpg

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psctnkybsh.jpg

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps1omxvt13.jpg

I have the patch panel to replace the section of the front door pillar that's bad.
http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psj2ohll3g.jpg

The rear door pillar looked bad so I ordered one for each side. Hopefully make it in this week.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...pspgo1hkfq.jpg

I just had to stick my NOS rocker panel up there to see how well it fit. It fit so good I wish I could have just welded it up and been done with it, but I have too much rust to remove first.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psihujkbia.jpg

Back to reality, I cropped off the lower section of the front door pillar.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psf7ducxsd.jpg

Pretty crappy looking inside.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psays7g3mk.jpg

Back side of the front door pillar that I cut out.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psgztrst8w.jpg

Footwell is gonna need a patch, I have one just have to cut out the bad stuff.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps19rue91z.jpg

Most of the bad stuff cut out, going to leave the bad cab supports in place for now so I don't get the cab too far out of alignment. I do have cross bracing installed but feel better leaving the supports just not welding to them. I'll weld the panels to the new ones when they are installed.

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...pskv2aj9cp.jpg

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...pslqhcil5a.jpg

http://i722.photobucket.com/albums/w...psy64dbv79.jpg

Got the floor section fit in and welded, still have a ton of grinding to do. The front portion of the panel didn't align too well with the firewall so I cut it off and will fab a section and weld it in later.

Thanks David, it's progress in the right direction. Ordered cab supports and pillar patches from GMC Paul's Saturday night and got confirmation of shipping today. Can't say how happy I've been with the service from his business. :metal:

Gonna pick up a cheap Harbor Freight sand blast pot this week and see if I can put it to use this weekend. Probably have to go buy a compressor too.
