Thanks I popped over there - agreed about using heater hoses too.

I only crack my hose a bit on the inside 90 degree bend (did not break it in half), so I wrapped it with normal black electrical tape and then used engine bay wire fabric wrap tape over that. Though I want to get a proper replacement.

On my flame arrester, it was so clogged with gunk I could hardly push air through it (I'd say 95% blocked). It was great to read all I needed to do is "un-gunk" it! I have a feeling that wasn't very good it not letting air through.

I soaked mine in gasoline and I'm sure you could use something like Gunk as well. The PCV valve is another thing to check, if the flame arrestor was gunked up the PCV valve and hose would probably be worse.

Re: Need Name or Part Number

I used a butt load of carb cleaner on it.

So in the last two days:
New Oil Cap
New PCV Grommet and PCV valve (I had already replace the PCV valve some time ago but didn't get a right angled one).

Today my new Grommet for the fire arrester came in, this was the first time I actually looked up inside the arrester or paid it any attention to it at all. Seriously, it was like someone packed it with grease or more like black playdough!

Replacing the cap/grommets came about because they were all leaking/oozing oil around where they should be sealing. The cap gasket and old grommets were hard/worn out. But now perhaps that arrester was causing a venting issue?
