Nice work - was wondering why you removed the main crossmember?

i'm gonna leave the new one all together to install it under the truck . The old one is easier to store all together also takes up less space than in a bunch of pieces. This is my first crossmember swap so if i'm doing it wrong I will find out soon enough ;) Bob

Cool project...my oldest daughter is 4, but has already shown interest in my truck so I hope to do a project with her at some point. Think she might really want a blazer for her first vehicle ;)

Yeah she was untill I ripped the front crossmember off and loaded in the truck . It took a little explaining that the new one will be better !! She knows I will get it back together she has watched me take things apart and back together her whole life !! Bob P.S. I gotta get this one on rollers soon it's holding my 50th hostage and it's warmin' up outside;)

Keep the fire alive in your kids if they are interested in these trucks. My son wanted mine too but changed his mind when I told him of the upkeep. You almost have to do it yourself or it will cost you a bundle. Involve them in things such as changing gaskets and simple tune ups or they will loose interest as mine did. My fault I know.

Doin my best to keep her involved and she makes me explain what every part is and what it does. She will be helping alot when the heavy work is done and when we rebuild the 283 ;) Bob

Not much progress i picked up the proper v-8 motor mounts and few other things waiting for some mud to dry up so i can get the donor frame home and install the new front suspension . We also removed the P.O. bondo from the cab supports and a hole in one kick panel should be an easy fix. More pics comming soon !!;)

wait a minute man. is this now officially a "frame off resto" ? I notice the cabs off and is it now in the place of the 68? Awesome deal on those fenders and hood. They look pretty straight.

Re: Project Sweet 16

Cabs not off just moved in the garage so I could get the 68 out ;)

Great progress Bob!

If there's anything you need, let me know, and I'll see what I have hiding out back. I'd be more than willing to help a buddy out, especially to build his daughter a sweet truck and keep the tradition alive.

-Sam.

I don't think your daughter will be disappointed. I have a 70 for my first vehicle and i couldn't be happier. Good luck on the build by the way.
