Re: Patina love
So I come home after a hard days work ready to take the dogs for a ride in “TETNUS”. And upon opening garage door I found this
https://i.imgur.com/GHwJloW.jpg So I had to heat drums up with torch as they were siezed on axle flange. And then I race on down to O’Reilly to get parts. I bought new drum, pads, wheel cylinders, spring kits, adjusters, axle seals and axle bearing. All of which will be here tomorrow. When I get home I finish disassemble both sides and find the e brake cables broke. So I call orielly up and although they didn’t have them he gave me ac delco number 18p2299. Hope it’s right cause I got a pair coming second day from rock auto. What a mess. Lmao https://i.imgur.com/yIOeNno.jpg |

Re: Patina love
I do not get the "patina love" thing. Two reasons to leave the body on my truck as it was in my build. I do not have the money to spend (understand that) or I have more dollars than cents (sense). I saved a lot of years to do my truck as I wanted. I will love it with the new paint. The original faded and rusted exterior would be a compromise to me. No matter what I did to fix it up it would still be an old rusty truck. Can the old rusty truck still be enjoyed, yes.

Re: Patina love
Got some spare time today, pulled the axles and although the bearing look great the axle surface was pitted. So I got a new pair of 6 lug axles with bearing, seals and lugs on the way
https://i.imgur.com/SRvEzq7.jpg Then I pulled rear end , degreased and pressure washed. Then went to town with wire wheel. Already have everything new so getting it painted and re installed. Axles hopefully Friday. https://i.imgur.com/KaQrD9U.jpg |
Re: Patina love
Also on my list of things to do. I need some help identifying my air cleaner. Is it oem? The lid is rotten where wing nut goes on top. So I’d like to find a complete setup for a 1 barrel that is era correct. Any help appreciated

Re: Patina love
Well, I do love the patina look. I like car shows but I LOVE junkyards and when I see a patina truck I'm happy someone loves it enough to keep it on the road. I'd rather see patina than billet and tweed.
Nice work, Rg |

Re: Patina love
Building brake lines and assembling rear brakes at this point. Weather sucks here and painting parts is a total pain in the a$$…. Axles should arrive today, hopefully. And I got a package last night with a radio delete plate I had bought from a member. Here’s the before and after

https://i.imgur.com/B4d0Aov.jpgBeen a day or two assembling drum brakes. I don’t have holes to adjust in backing plate so I’m gonna drill the face of the drums

Re: Patina love
You're going to have a nicely sorted out truck when done!
I'll look at my air cleaner stash and see if I have one I could part with... |

Re: Patina love
Been having a full throttle stumble since I bought this truck a month ago. I flushed tank, installed eBay electric choke 1 barrel, installed new fuel pump, installed HEI along with the firewall to distributor rewire. Always starts like a champ runs smooth throughout throttle except for full throttle. Yesterday while getting parts at orielly it wouldn’t even click to start. So I used there battery jumper and got home to check. Low and behold the 3 wire alternator to a crap. So this a.m. I decided to install a 1 wire setup. Mostly for being simplistic and less wiring. So I bought a 61amp 1 wire, and ran new 10 gauge wire from alternator to starter post as I like to no clutter up battery. Thing runs the best it has ever ran. Wish I would have caught this early on.

On another note I got heater core/ heater hoses/radiator hoses, all new clamps, water pump, 195 thermostat, thermostat housing gaskets. Radiator going in tomorrow to get the rod out treatment hope it’s all good. Then reinstall and on to the next thing. lol. Everything I touch gets the full treatment of degrease, scrape, sand, wire wheel, primer and paint. Planning the Chevy orange treatment on the engine too
